Gonna try and use this place like it’s the fun days of twitter. Expect more shares than my instagram, and a bunch of random thoughts that add up to my worldview.

Following a lot of tech people, music people, and radical Jews. The threads are there! Hang with me.

It's been a serious pleasure joining Andrew Urbina, Sandy Eldred, and Wayne Smith Jr. as a new quartet while Sandy and Andrew's USE Trio is on leave. So fun to play in the fiery jazz world and to rememberI have what to say in it!

Here's our 2nd gig from Wednesday.

Food history is labor history part 3647595928374

♥️ Much love to the team at The Sword and the Sandwich for this ongoing series about sandwiches. If you've never read this newsletter, this is a fantastic starting point.
It's Friday! Sandwich day!

Today I answer your burning question: who are the poor boys po'boy sandwiches are named after?

The answer: Streetcar workers from the great New Orleans strike of 1929!

Two brothers stepped up to feed them:

"It’s the food of work. And it’s also, by extension, the food of the strike, mutual aid, protest, and solidarity with those who labor. So it’s fitting that one of America’s most iconic sandwiches—the po’ boy, a jewel in the crown of New Orleans cuisine—was born out of a strike"
Here it is!!!! The Sandwich Fact!!!! Near guaranteed to make you go "huh I didn't know that" unless you did!

Pissed about the probably correct situation that I probably can't get a grant anymore with work samples that are just audio and I just haven't had the funds or opportunity recently to get the high end professional video (or DIY that covers the bases) that I'll likely need. It's frustrating!

Hey folks, Bandcamp Friday is back. Bandcamp waives their processing fees today. Helps us musicans get a couple extra dollars.

My music is spread over a whole bunch of bandcamp pages, but here's a great place to start:

Trombonist and composer Dan Blacksberg is one of the premiere practitioners of modern and traditional klezmer on the trombone, and an established voice in experimental music. With work spanning avant-garde jazz, modern classical music, improvised music, and klezmer, Blacksberg has developed a complex style to carve out new spaces for the trombone in modern experimental and Jewish music.

I think often of the women in the Louis CK story—how they all left comedy and never went back, but he’s still going. It’s everywhere and it’s such a loss for them and for us—for things they’ll never make that we’ll never see.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

This was a really difficult storm to respond to, but I always feel like Parker's biggest problem, aside from ideology, is she always seems allergic to just saying 'we did our best, but it wasn't good enough, and I'm sorry.' Instead it's always 'we did a good job, and you just can't see that.'
Philadelphians are frustrated with the city’s snow storm cleanup. What does that mean for Mayor Cherelle Parker?
Snowstorms are infamous for their ability to undermine constituents’ faith in their mayors. The risk of fallout could be heightened for Parker, who campaigned on a promise to provide city services.
