Green Day were a massive part of the sound of my undergraduate days. I'm a bit confused that it seems a lot of people didn't seem to know they were political. Oh, well.

NEW: PM’s Chief of Staff Morgan McSweeney resigns

“After careful reflection, I have decided to resign from the government. The decision to appoint Peter Mandelson was wrong. He has damaged our party, our country and trust in politics itself.”

The only correct response is: Wishing her well and I hope she makes a full recovery.

There's a lot of nonsense and noise and obnoxious stuff around that disgusting administration. But this is genuinely a big fucking deal and excellent reporting. Won't make a dent over there. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Am quietly waiting for SEND reform shit storm. That ought to do it.
Why is every scandal existential for Starmer? Because he has actively worked to eradicate his own support base. And that, along with the Mandelson decision, can be laid at McSweeney's door iandunt.substack.com/p/starmers-m...

They know what they say is untrue, they do not care it is untrue.

The media know that what they repeat is untrue, they do not care it is untrue.

Their supporters know what they are told is untrue, they do not care it is untrue.

Telling the truth is not enough, unless people care about the truth.

Not fit for purpose as a serious news organisation with this standard of journalism. I fear we will lose something wonderful in this shameful period of history because they're too piss scared to report the truth.
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

🧵thread of right-wing reactions to the ICE murder this AM:
We are dealing with a Western Christian supremacist movement willing to see millions die in the name of racial purity. This is William Wolfe. A year ago he was invited with fourteen other faith leaders to the WH. Today he is praising ICE for killing peaceful observers. This is Christian fascism.

I'm British, but my families are from Germany and Yugoslavia. Suffice to say I'm watching what's unfolding in the US and know, yes, it can happen anywhere. Unfortunately rather easily.

I have never been so relieved the biggest news story here is about internal Labour party psychodrama that absolutely nobody outside politics gives one singular fuck about.

The Nazi SA - Sturmabteilung, or Storm Troopers - were often recruited from the dregs of society: barely literate failures incapable of holding down a job and only fit for murder and terror. The scum of Germany. Hitler gave them free rein to vent their rage on their betters. Sound familiar, America?

Quite glad that the big story in British politics is whether Andy Burnham will apply to stand in a by-election and not people being gunned down by state militias.

Solidarity with Minnesotans resisting this barbarity.

I've seen the video - I figure as I'm living through this disgusting period in history, I have an obligation not to look away - and I'm more than uncomfortable with the language being used to describe it. Shot and killed implies this was somehow legitimate.
The Star Tribune reports that federal agents "attempted to order local police from the scene" where a man was shot and killed by feds this morning, but Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara refused and "instructed his officers to preserve the scene."

A video appears to shows federal agents wrestling a man to the ground then shooting him.

If this was happening in certain parts of the world, it would be labelled as "Death Squads".
I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.

I'm tired of posting "please can someone define severe and complex" but I fear I'll keep doing it for a while because they just don't get it, do they. Downing Street are right to be very, very nervous about this plan because not one single parent or carer will support it.

Umpteen posts every day on my timeline. Not holding my breath that anyone will actually do anything to stop this. How this progresses really frightens me.
This week in San Antonio I met two traumatized young boys who were locked up for 6 weeks at Trump’s “baby prison” in Texas. Taken when they checked in for a routine hearing, their mother waiting in the car with their backpacks for school.

It’s insane this is happening.

This is a fucking hideous thing to say. Even by his non-existent standards.
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."
