This is spot on. Taking action in my personal life also provides me with a sense of purpose and progress when the broader world often disappoints. Always remember, you make a difference.
🔥 The never-ending narrative…
This week, I’ve once again heard prominent climate researchers dismiss individual action as either irrelevant or a distraction instigated by the fossil fuel industry.

Here’s a 🧵 on why this argument frustrates me to no end and why I think it misses the bigger picture.

Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

Not at all surprising that the notoriously nimble Democratic political machine planned ahead 23 years to plant a fake Trump drawing in Epstein's birthday book. That Chuck Schumer sees around corners!

Money in politics is not the source of all evil but it’s a big piece of the pie.

Why do fossil fuel companies need to pay politicians $1 billion? What’s the alternative they are fighting against?

It’s simple. They’re fighting against the will of the American people with $1 billion club. Shameful.

I use Google News to scan the headlines. The very bad jobs report was the 31st story in the “Headlines” feed (not my personal “For You” feed).

That seems real low. Anyone ever seen an analysis of “Bad News” amplification under Biden vs Trump?

Seems like there’s a world of difference.

Killing science, stealing cures? Either way, so true & so sad.

There’s a lot of reasons we got here, but one is that we left too many people behind.

Most Americans don’t know the benefits that come from science. Whatever it is, it’s not helping me.

People need to know the benefits it brings.
The brain drain created by this Administration’s anti science policies will affect research for decades.

They are robbing your children of the cures they would have seen.

Stealing science, killing cures.
Nice study by @arghavansallesmd.medsky.social et al., even though quite a depressing read.

Studies/articles like these are useful to help the public understand what's being lost and push back.

This graph says a lot.

First, Republicans are more satisfied when there’s a Republican President than Democrats are with a Dem President.

Second, Independents are more satisfied under Trump now than they ever were with Biden.

Dems need to start focusing on being effective more than right.
Only 25% of independents are satisfied with the way things are going in the U.S. right now.

Honestly, this may be one of the most important media graphs I've ever seen.

The claim: Democrats keep using annoying words.
The data: Republicans CLAIMS Democrats use them, which then becomes the narratives.

Then centrists attack DEMS for things GOPer CLAIM they say, not GOP for making stuff up.

As an Ohioan for over 30 years, this is so embarrassing.

The sad thing is DeWine knows better, but plays along.

Not sure what happened to the state. Historically it’s been pretty educated & economically vibrant.

I think it’s mostly about a widening income gap & the resentment that comes with it.
Went ahead and updated my map of cities with higher crime than D.C. to accommodate the two new states from the Deep South who are sending troops to the capital. In the five states there are 64 cities, home to 1.7 million people, that had more crime in 2024 than D.C.

I once naïvely thought the reason to electrify was to reduce my carbon footprint.

While that’s a good thing, I now realize the MOST important reason to decarbonize is to reduce the income of fossil fuel companies who use the money we give them to eliminate progress in climate change.

Some days it’s hard to know what you can do to fight climate change.

Here’s one…help connect the next generation to nature. This connection is critical for them to have the knowledge & desire to fix what we have left them.

What makes this so sad is that this is one of the few places where people can can have an impact through small daily choices (vs spending $50k on an EV/solar arrays or changing how steel is made)

While not everyone will change, more would if the impact was clearer.

Why are these groups doing this?
The beef lobby playbook: confuse people about the science when it comes to cattle & climate, so you can have your beef & eat it too. Eco groups providing cover for the industry are “giving it a nice little fairy dusting of respectability” says @profsecchi.bsky.social
