🧵Cars parked on the pavement, pavement cracks, street obstacles like bin bags, overhanging branches, and electric bikes and e-scooters.

There are an increasing number of obstacles which can stop blind and partially sighted people from walking around safely and confidently. 1/3

I actually think they were worried, but because conservatives lack empathy....they cannot imagine people thinking differently than they do, so since they would be oppressive authoritarians if ever they got the chance, and so they assume everyone else wants to do the same thing.

Robert Kennedy seems to think that big pharma is bad, and vitamins are good, and that the two industries are... different. Or something.

As a historian of the pharmaceutical industry all I can say is... uh, no. Not really.

part of what got south korea out under the thumb of authoritarian dictatorships and to real elections (1987) and free and fair ones (1992) were large, mass protests and demonstrations.

which is such an anodyne way of describing what happened. it makes it sound bloodless.

it wasn't.
my country elected a fascist 10 years ago and he's now arguably the most unpopular pm we've ever had and we still can't get rid of him because once a fascist gets into power, typically you do not get them out without a whole lot of mass violence. Don't be like us.

Urban streets should be designed at a human scale, prioritizing the needs of people over vehicles. By right-sizing vehicles to fit these streets, we create safer, more affordable, and sustainable public spaces that support vibrant city life.

Profoundly disappointing that the @irishtimes.bsky.social would run a puff piece on an utterly unqualified influencer who puts vulnerable people at risk with their incessant scaremongering. Especially poor form that dieticians who repeatedly expressed their concerns were ignored..

Great way of putting it
A cyclist is only in your way if your starting presumption is that your journey in a car is more important than theirs on a bike.

Next year, the tax on these cars will double. On the face of it, this seems significant. But how do the new tax rates compare to our European neighbours?

It doesn’t change much. We move from being the 19th lowest to the 18th lowest for an average new petrol SUV.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Food systems are the #2 contributor to climate change, the #1 driver of deforestation, the #1 driver of biodiversity loss on land, and the #1 user of freshwater.

(It follows that food systems contain many solutions to these problems.)
