I think I might take one of these "under 20 minutes" AI skills courses the UK Govt. seems very keen on everyone doing and live-post it here... Maybe we can all learn something together! The press release sends me to aiskillshub.org.uk/aiskillsboost/ - let's go and see!

Snowed in here.

We had a Zoom virtual Quaker meeting this morning. The silence helped.

Over the last few years, I've realized that I grew up in a deeply unhappy home-- one dominated by grief, loneliness, and inertia. Chronic, untreated depression. Flashes of anger. Fear of the world.

Saying those words-- not so easy.

An unspoken pang may, like an asymptote,

approach visible speech: it runs closer

and closer but does not touch.

We are seeking poems that perform Olympic feats with language that leave the reader in wonder while still reminding us of what makes us human.

Send us work that uniquely explores January’s theme of “sound.”

February’s upcoming theme is “obsession.”

Are you ready? Our fifth annual fiction contest begins January 15th.

We want stories that make the reader think and feel, work that humbles us with its joy, anger, hope, grief, and gravitate toward writing that has something important to teach us.

I've made dinner for my wife twice over the last few days. Experimenting with recipes from Chinese Cooking Demystified.

Watching her taste the dishes-- the best feeling.

One of the chief virtues of the book is that it’s nearly the only remaining form of media that isn’t constantly being interrupted by ads. Between the covers is the last place on earth where no one is trying to sell you shit, a place where you can still be a human being rather than a mark.

Our last movie of 2025 was the new Frankenstein. Very disappointing!

But...

We're hosting a New Years Day party for our Quaker meeting-- we'll make pasta together, then have it for dinner.

I can’t help thinking about how stunning these must have been at the time, and the ones with the comedic actors are fun, but just watching the sea replicated…
130 years ago, on the 28th of December 1895, the Lumière brothers gave their first public screening which consisted of ten short films. All were between 38 and 49 seconds long and included subjects such as 'baby's breakfast', 'horse trick riders', 'the sea' and 'the gardener'. #otd #history 🗃️

May I suggest that, as with all 'users' of genAI and its ilk, if you just don't wannaaaaaaa do the work you're being asked to do, go do something else! The world will not stop spinning! You have infinite choices in what to do with your time! And if you find you are useless at everything: oh well!
