Lorde I love light rail with a grassy right of way! Can we get just a crumb of this in NZ? I beg.

The irony here is that academics don’t just write the articles for free—we also referee and edit for them for free. Something is deeply broken.

“New Zealand's eight universities spent $30-million a year on journal licences and about half of that sum went to Elsevier.

One New Zealand university told its staff all universities in New Zealand and Australia would "lose some degree of access" to the publisher's 1600 titles from the start of next year.

#NZpol

The promotion of Chung - PROMOTION after all that insidious, hideous RW troll did - tells us a lot about how "forward thinking" the Council will actually be.

It's assuredly fucked us for the near future. Some of these people are just addicted to having power, and damn it, it fucking shows.
The conservative minority on Wellington City Council never had the votes to kill the Golden Mile, so instead they played for time, demanding more reviews and consultation to delay it until a conservative won the mayoralty. Andrew Little has played right into their hands.

I was recently in Spain, and the prosperity and confidence and quality of urban design, pedestrian, cycling and public transport facilities in the five cities I visited all made Wellington look like some ossified late 70s backwater.
Some cities are actively pursuing growth. Others are stuck in a state of managed decline, merely cutting costs for loud existing homeowners while doing nothing to build for the future.

I'm increasingly worried that Wellington is irrevocably stuck in the second category.

Why does everyone hate Starmer? Because us Left-leaning types have spent DECADES being fucked over by the Tories, trying desperately to convince Tory voters and Centrists that Labour will be better, can do better, and can do better without acting like Tory bastards...

Then, Starmer goes Reform lite

Exactly this.
Tory Whanau tried to break the stagnation to move the city forward, the loud homeowners engaged in a campaign of sabotage.
And now here we are, only a few weeks into Little's term, straight back to the sclerotic norm.

OK team of 5m, we've got 15 days to add $27k to Siouxsie's fundraiser to top $200k.

If you can, please contribute to pay back some of the awesome mahi she did for us. If you can't, just encourage others to.

She doesn't deserve to be out of pocket over the legal battles she has had to fight.
