Thinking about the girls in the Epstein files makes me want to rage in anger and frustration for so, so many reasons, including and especially this reason. What is dismissed as standard man behavior is actually the grossest kind of sociopathy and women absolutely should not have to put up with it.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

Our entire modern life is like Baker Street right now and this song and video is playing in my head all the time.

"Another year and then you'll be happy...just one more year and then you'll be happy...but you're crying, you're crying now."

Reason no. 14,798,214 that we need to burn down the patriarchy. 😡🔥
Gelenter's fellow Yale prof Amy Chua was reported to have told prospective female clerks how to improve their looks for an interview with Kavanaugh. But even she didn't mention looks in the actual rec letter.
Yale prof David Gelernter defends his letter urging Epstein to hire "v small goodlooking blonde" student by saying that he was "keep[ing] the potential boss's habits in mind."

This creep shouldn't be allowed anywhere near students.

Why yes, I did just (like 5 minutes ago) finish grading for the course I taught in December. Now I have to move on to grading for the course I taught in January.

I am very, very tired.

Trump needs to shut up about the feds running elections.

Between Marco Rubio, Mike Johnson, and Kash Patel, I am SO FURIOUS at how the current political climate not only facilitates, but practically guarantees, the failing-up of some of the most ridiculously mediocre men in the entire population of the United States.

BURN DOWN THE #PATRIARCHY.

Ooof. While it's hard to feel all that bad for a lawyer who is responsible for representing the Trump administration in court, this cry for help hit me very hard. The workplace toxicity at the #DOJ must be off the charts. We are going to have some very damaged lawyers at the end of this nightmare.
Fox 9 MN reporter Paul Blume: "SHOCKING FEDERAL COURT MOMENT: DOJ attorney Julie Le, 'The system sucks, this job sucks' to Judge Jerry Blackwell who pressed her on why so many court orders are being ignored by ICE/Trump admin. She asked to be held in contempt just so she could get 24 hours of sleep"

Honest inquiry:

How are you all summoning enough energy to get things done? I have to grade exams from two courses in the next week or so, and I don't want to do that or anything else. I have never felt so exhausted or unmotivated before, and it's making me really worried.

Not pictured: Haruki Murakami’s wife, or indeed whoever is cooking, cleaning, paying bills, running errands, doing the laundry, answering emails, etc

like yea his routine is goals, but let’s not lie to ourselves about all the invisible work others are doing to enable him to have that routine

Is it possible that we will see then end of the fail-up queen's tenure as the head of homeland security? Let's hope so.

I have shoveled A LOT of snow recently. I enjoy it because you can see the actual results of your labor, plus it's nice to get exercise and breathe in cold air. But the sheer level of exhaustion after that much physical labor never fails to astonish me and always reminds me how privileged I am.

I would love nothing more than for organized labor to score a victory this epic.
Stephen Miller going down at the power of the labor movement would be one of the proudest moments I'd witness in my nearly 20 years in organized labor.

Let's get it done.

Yeah, I don't think Homan is going to be very much better.

Of course no one that the current administration would even consider bringing in would be all that great from the perspective of anyone who cares about democracy, decency, and human rights.

Minnesota, you have made us very proud.

ONWARD.

Mood: Heaven help me I will finish this index today, but wow I am so tired of looking at it and this book, plus the country is in such a sorry state, and on top of all of that I'm not so young anymore. #whining

Yeah, I would really like it if mediocre men stopped failing up and up and up, please and thank you.
Kash Patel going to a big meeting of the intelligence chiefs in England and asking if they can go jet skiing instead of having a normal meeting is really doing a number on my ability to focus

Say it louder for people in the back.
Jack Smith: "My fear is that we have seen the rule of law function in our country for so long that many of us have come to take it for granted. The rule of law is not self-executing. It depends on our collective commitment to apply it."

Justice Scalia would be pretty damn mad if he were still alive, which is really saying something considering how we got to the current state of affairs. #fourthamendment #getawarrant

In April, I was scheduled to teach two law classes in Germany over Zoom. Today I wrote to tell them that I cannot do this. I am so sad and so angry and so burnt out. All I've been doing is talking to law students about this BS administration for a year, and I can't anymore.

I hate this.

NOT WRONG
there's definitely a cohort of people in the corridors of power that have absolutely cooked their brains on the insular social media, testosterone supplements, and the manosphere and are legitimately shocked to discover that most people do not cheer state violence or think tech products are geniuses

The guy actually wrote a letter to the leader of Norway saying that he is going after Greenland because Norway denied him a Nobel Peace Prize. ?

25th him already, seriously. Anyone who can't see what an insane menace he is has no business being in a position of power in the U.S. government.

I play in an orchestra and needed to scan a part that is printed on larger-than-normal paper. My scanner at home couldn't do it, so I went to the library and used theirs. The scan is perfect, it took me about 3 minutes, and it was free.

I also checked out 4 books.

I 💕 the #library.

I asked for, and was granted, a short extension on my current indexing project. Only two days. Still, it gave me a bit of breathing room - enough to go to the gym and have a nice dinner.

Life is very difficult right now. Ask for what you need, folks. Even if it's hard and you're embarrassed. 💕
