I've been reflecting over the past few days on the value of Minnesota's robust and resilient local media.

When an agent provocateur came to town with the goal of inciting racial hatred, it was local media that acted as a fire hydrant, providing timely reporting that has helped douse the flames.

Ever since the 6 bus was upgraded to the E Line BRT, I've barely been able to read my book on my commute. If I'm lucky I can get through 3 pages before I'm at the office. These are the trade offs no one talks about

Probably my most elaborate map to date, I launched my “Bike Map of Madison” as a print earlier this summer during @madisonbikes Bike Week. Now recently updated with the new @crono_madison location! ⭐

I get that remote sensing is complicated and all, but why must every resource attempting to make sense of remote sensing do it like this???

This is so fun. Someone is collecting user-submitted locations of first kisses in the Twin Cities. I've done my part. 🫡

I strongly second this. Images like this steal part of your soul. Some of us have to watch horrific things because it's part of what we do as journalists. It's part of being honest and bearing witness, looking so others don't have to do the same. If it can be avoided, avoid it at all costs.
Folks, as someone who watched an enormous amount of graphic footage in my time as a journalist and developed PTSD because of it, please do not watch the Charlie Kirk footage.

Trust me. Once it's seared into your memory you cannot delete it.

You, a boring New Yorker: Having some sort of stupid Bluesky Discourse about the merits of New York vs. every single other city in America or some stupid shit.
Me, an enlightened Minnesotan: Having an Important Dialogue about the borders of Uptown and what that says about Twin Cities demographics.
Strib’s fun Uptown boundary project crunches 2,000 reader submissions and — as the definitive authority on this matter — I say they did well! You young people are getting a bit casual, but for once I’m counting on folks getting more conservative as they age! www.startribune.com/we-asked-whe...

We've solved it, and the argument shall never happen again, we declare.

This turned out so fun; come for the answer, stay for the pink and purple map at the end.

Welp, folks. We did it. We settled the debate about Uptown's borders.

It’s true! And it’ll be hard to limit myself to 50!
Big news at Belt! The 50 Maps family is growing. We just confirmed we'll be adding the Twin Cities to the lineup with Minneapolis-based cartographer named Jacob Steinberg. Hooray for Twin Cities in 50 Maps! 🗺️

Spent a month building this so that Star Tribune readers can finally settle the debate: where is Uptown?

The story published a few hours ago and we already have over 700 submissions. Soon we'll compile all the Uptowns to create the definitive map of Minneapolis's most argued-over neighborhood.
Draw your own map of Uptown to help settle the neighborhood’s boundaries
Tell us where your Uptown begins and ends: Lake and Lyndale? West of Bde Maka Ska?
