Until I die, I will never understand why so many motorists think that “having a car” should give you special protections from doing crimes.
Year one: "We can work it out as an estimate"
Year two: "Oh, look, lots of people are dodging the system!"
Year three: "We need to fit mandatory trackers to every car in the country."
Year four plus: "Why shouldn't tracker data be used in evidence? What have people got to hide?"
I don’t think think “estimated road use” is right approach - at the least drivers should have the *option* of getting a black box fitted that just tracks their EVs usage, but come on, Mel, impersonate a serious politician!

I always enjoy reading the TripAdvisor London Forum because I'm fascinated to see what foreign tourists expect, what they ask about and what surprises them. I thought this post from someone from Texas was a really lovely and cheering comment about riding the tube late at night

The older one gets, the more one comes to realise that the “grown ups” you always assumed were running things and basically knew what they were doing are really just winging it, and are often either utterly clueless or lacking in any real power to do what they’re expected to do.

As it seems to be today's discourse: took me until i was about 23, and a fair bit of coaching from female friends IRL and online, to understand that being a nerd had NOTHING to do with my lack of getting laid.

Was mostly about accepting women were people. Which is shocking. But it was early 2000s.

The new Jurassic Park is brilliant.
We went to see it yesterday and loved it. The best one since the original.

This is potentially great news from the PPF, opening the door to zero PPF levies.

Along with the S37 announcement, it's been a good day in the world of #pensions
We welcome the provisions in the Pension Schemes Bill which would give us greater flexibility to reduce the levy, enable PPF and FAS member data to be made available for pension dashboards, and better support members with a terminal illness. Read our full comment: ppf.co.uk/news/comment...

My best men (my sisters) ran a game of bingo and I 'won' my wife.

Our family owned a social club and the nightly bingo was a long standing family joke
Okay, the nerdiest thing at your wedding. Go!
STORYTIME.

At our wedding, my astronomer husband and I had a planetarium show (YES NERDS WE KNOW). The MC told everyone to get drunk first. During the show my drunk aunt-in-law shouted "SHOW US URANUS" and he had a whole BIT about how Uranus got rammed by something hard and let out a lot of gas. 😂

Why are children not playing in the street? An FT piece analysing the - very concerning - decline in outdoor play manages to look at every possible cause: screens, spaces, school timetable changes. Apart from one.

Cars.

It is simply not safe for kids to play outside on streets.

In all the Poison Ivy-related ecological googling I've done over the past few years, this is the conclusion I've come to on a personal and practical level: just use stuff for as long as you possibly can before throwing it out. Getting more granular will drive you nuts
Broadly speaking the way to be ecologically responsible doesn't really matter what materials you use. It matters how often you're replacing things. It takes a lot of water to make denim jeans, but if you wear that pair 20 years it's nothing!
