“Okay, I know it looks bad that I turned to a convicted sex trafficker to fund my dual research on how climate change is a hoax and why it’s genetically advantageous for women to mate with middle-aged academics instead of Black men but you see, Epstein had all the money and I wanted some."
Nine More Higher Ed Names in the Epstein Files
Through coffees, phone calls and private flights, at least nine more academics are linked to Jeffrey Epstein in the latest disclosure of documents from the Justice Department.

One of the reasons why there are so many professors in the Epstein files is arguably because the long right-wing project of undermining higher education enabled them, not just by turning a blind eye to sexual misconduct but by incentivizing academics to seek out private funding
It feels like it's been impossible to get people outside of higher ed to understand that eliminating staff/programs/majors is primarily an ideological project, whatever claims are made about finances.

What's happened at the Post is what's been happening in higher ed for ages.

Isn't it super random that all of the "anti-woke" cancel culture academics who all leaned into transphobia and race science later in their careers all seem to be connected through Jeffrey Epstein?

ari aster's thing of escalating paranoia creating real violence doesn't really apply to the current political moment, but there have been historical situations it applies to, like the french revolution

controversial but all the "no immigrants in the epstein files" boomer slop going around is the same kind of cringe. the word 'immigrant' is not about whether someone is an old white man or not

Bad Bunny isn't an immigrant.

This shit is cooked through. 150 years of being a newspaper and now you're a 4chan comment thread.
The Super Bowl halftime show, with Bad Bunny showcasing Latin music before a global television audience expected to top 100 million, will illustrate the nation’s immigration divide whether or not the reggaeton star delivers an explicit political message.

This is one of the most sad parts of this whole thing.

Misogyny runs deep in a society when the underlying value is that "women could be lying" is the prevailing thought and not that "the men could be pedophiles".

And this is not isolated, it went on for decades.

the fact that they saw Polanski as not being punished despite fleeing to France -- the fact that his social circle did not hold him accountable -- finally makes me understand why the elite media is insane about left activism at elite colleges: nothing anyone else can do to them matters.

i think it is particularly interesting that Barro, McArdle, and Douthat saw the moralizing change which has happened since the 1970s not as "you might get arrested for fucking a 12-year-old" but rather "your friends on Martha's Vineyard might cut you off for fucking her."
i would say that it's class solidarity but at this point i think it's just a tic. they don't even really process anything anymore
