Someone here in Edmonton is setting up an analog cafe off Jasper Ave.
Except he's using AI generated imagery to ask for print submissions for their gallery, and using an LLM to write all his responses to me.
I don't know why he thinks this is a good idea.

I figure that most shows take about six months to find their groove, and Hyperfixed is right in there now.
If you gave the show a try in the first few months and found it a bit rough, they have been producing hit after hit since April. Give it another try, this new episode is superlative.

We have a big @hyperfixedpod.bsky.social episode this week featuring baker and magician Claire Saffitz. Listen wherever you listen to podcasts.

I was reading some Murakami, thinking about this. Regardless of his shortcomings—and they are there—I think I keep coming back because of how he creates alienation between his characters. It is only in surreality that honest communication can take place. (Cont.)
huh it’s like we’re alienated from our humanity or Gattungswesen and live our lives like an unthinking cog thanks to the commodification of goods
Chicken nuggets, art, a smartphone, a terra-cotta decoration of the side of an old building, these are all functionally the same, they are consumables

I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

Case in point, someone just had an interesting post about reading terrible things being good for your writing. It was a good jumping off point for conversation.
But, they had turned off all interactions, so fuck them.

I love editing novels. I love pulling at the weave so the author can see the snags, and they reweave it even better.
I love the magic trick of only showing the audience the final product, so they never know what could have been.
It's the best.

Oh, this is doing the rounds again! Nice, yeah this provides temporary relief.
Fellow tinnitus sufferers: I was Googling, again, and randomly fell upon this Reddit comment and ... uh ... it actually worked? Or like, seriously reduced the ringing at least temporarily.

It is absolutely fascinating seeing people discover just now that Larson has a website for The Far Side, and a section for new work.
I was really excited when this was announced and launched back in 2020. But, I had to temper my expectations. Check the copyrights, he doesn't post often.

It's kinda cool that Gary Larson is doing new cartoons because he picked up a digital tablet, taught himself how to use it, and it made him love drawing again.

...was this series written back in 2011 and only just *now* recorded?
Very odd choices in narrative, things that I remember being talked about fifteen years ago across all the episodes so far. I don't know that I would focus on NBA Jam, joysticks, army recruiting, or Machinima today.
