Bristlecone pines can live for over 4000 years. This close up of the bark on one was shot in a grove on top of the white mountains in California. Shot on Tri-x with a Pentax 6x7.

Matilija Dam

Shot back when I lived in California but just finally got around to scanning. For scale, the dashes on the “cut here” line are about 6ft tall each. More details in the alt text.

At the left of frame a large piece of graffiti extends from the top of the dam all the way to the bottom with a painted on “cut here“ dashed line with a scissors graphic. The dam was built in 1947 but very quickly the reservoir filled with silt so it has been functionally useless for at least the last 40 years. Many long-term research projects into the removal of the dam have been conducted but so far only the notching has been completed.

As much as I love the aesthetics of the Kodak Retina, I’m struggling to make pictures I care about with it. I’ve got about 4 I like in as many rolls. Meanwhile the medium format Hapo is like a 50% hit rate haha.
