Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.

this is all to say that should democrats win the house and senate this november, they should hold similarly dramatic — which is to say televised and highly publicized — hearings on the conduct of ICE and CBP, with testimony from victims. we want as much of *this* as possible in the record. (3/?)
ICE detained Arlit Maria Martinez on her way to work. 2 days later, her 15 yo son died of cancer. They wouldn't let her out to say goodbye. The family had planned to move back to Mexico prior to the cancer diagnosis but stayed for his treatment. Now, Mr Martinez has lost his wife to ICE & his son.

having lived in fairly diverse places my whole life, ever since Trump won I do sometimes take in a street or a room or a conversation and suddenly get emotional about the fact that there is a powerful and organized movement backed by state power trying to rip this away from me
Look I know that “diversity is our strength” is cringe but: diversity is our strength. People who come from distinct cultural practices actively serving in community with one another. What a blessing to live in a world where that happens.
The thing about all these people they hate — the Somalis, the Haitians — are some of the most generous people you’ve ever met. Whose cultures are predicated on hospitality, whose kindness is entirely unmatched.

I don’t hold as strong opinions on this as Will does. I’m sympathetic to his idea that it’s inefficient, doesn’t scale well, and at worst is legally risky.
I depart from will in that i think it’s probably effective campaigning for the north side democratic primary electorate.

I don’t think that’s what Will would advocate either. Mamdani spent his money on production value for his social media campaign, ads that were highly targeted (the survivor ad) and a huge number of paid volunteers to gotv. All worthy and efficient uses of campaign funds.
