I'm unsure if this is a Guardian editorial policy but I find it odd in a piece on Trump's knee-jerk misogyny in the face of ongoing Epstein pressure that they have chosen not to name the two women reporters he insulted.

We know it was Catherine Lucey from Bloomberg and ABC's Mary Bruce. 1/2

Australia's greatest ally
The President of the United States is publicly calling for the political prosecution of his political opponents, urging the death penalty because they urged soldiers to uphold the rule of law.

This should be front page news everywhere. It is not, which tells much about how we got to this point.

pleasantly surprised that writing along to the soundtracks of city-building computer games like Age of Empires and Sierra's Pharaoh - games I played non-stop as a kid - unlocks some instinctual hyper-productivity that adulthood had buried

It's great to see the publication of the second paper from our "queer pollies" project exploring the social media harassment of LGBTQIA+ politicians during the 2022 Australian federal election.

It's also Open Access!

Just because the Trump administration frames this violence in an existential ideological divide (e.g. "real" Americans versus the radical left) it doesn't mean that news sources (particularly outside of the States!) should engage in the same rhetoric.

probably says something about Vance that public service is not, in his opinion, an expression of gratitude
Vance goes after NYC mayor hopeful Mamdani for not showing ‘gratitude’ to the US
‘I don’t know the guy but my sense is that he has had a very good life in this country,’ said Vance on Zohran Mamdani

if Trump can reframe an illegal invasion into a 50/50 scrap then every country with a significant security alliance with the states should be having a very close re-read of their agreement obligations. Is it in Pillar I or II? asking for a friend
Trump: People go into war and then they get their asses kicked and they lose their country, Nobody goes into a war thinking they're going to lose. I'm sure Ukraine thought they were going to win. You don’t go into a war that’s 15 times your size

Not sure "the international paedophile ring encroached on the thing I had going on at Mar-a-Lago" is quite the argument he thinks it is...
Trump says Epstein 'stole' young women, including Virginia Giuffre, from Mar-a-Lago

In academia, we're expected to critically engage with available research, or to conduct our own, in order to substantiate an argument.

This is a deeply serious accusation that is not at all self-evident, and I would expect the ASECA to be held to similar standards.

Jumpscare for De Santis' nasal whine. Also, least of the issues in the 77 seconds of this clip, but why are there always three times as many flags and seals than necessary? Betsy Ross didn't throw the first brick for this.
Trump threatens to arrest Mamdani and then adds, "a lot of people are saying he's here illegally"

Woke up to more deeply upsetting news out of the States (so, it's a day ending in y).
Skirmetti just came back. 6-3 against healthcare for trans minors.

This is nauseating.

didn’t expect to get a little weepy in the Tate Modern. a beautiful collection of quilts honouring 384 people who died from HIV/AIDS.

I’m always struck by how sweet and moving the messages stitched in by friends and family (chosen or otherwise). We live on in the memories of others.

Australian reporting and commentary on the horiffic mass deportations currently underway in the United States remain incomplete without an acknowledgement that the Trump administration has taken significant inspiration from Australia's draconian offshore detention policies.

So interesting when the data is this stark - the Liberal party is running twice as many men than women in this election, and of the seats the women candidates are contesting, 84% are mostly unwinnable 🥲

I spoke to the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia about Peter Dutton's recent comments on the so-called 'woke' agenda in Australian schools and universities.

I had some thoughts (1/7) 🧵
What does 'woke' mean? Peter Dutton's warning to schools is deliberately vague
Schools and universities with "woke" curriculums have been put on notice by Peter Dutton who doesn't want young people "indoctrinated"
