There is a character in my novel that talks like that, and it's supposed to be obvious that he's evil and weird.
Stephen Miller, who wants the U.S. to steal Greenland and shake down Latin America, says: ”We live in a world … that is governed by force, that is governed by power. These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”
That‘s a criminal pretending that a civilized world is impossible.

Book 1 of 2026: @joshrountree.bsky.social, The Unkillable Frank Lightning

Killer premise that is absolutely delivered on in the novel: Frankenstein's monster in a Wild West show, hunted by his wife because she wants to end his unnatural existence. I had a TON of fun reading this one!

Today is the last day of Barnes & Nobles' 25% off preorders sale. I just did what I did last year: bought a bunch of stuff i'm excited about, so now I'll be getting one or two books a month throughout the year at a discount as they come out. It's like making yourself a subscription box.

Ho ho ho, motherfuckers! This year's Christmas tale involves Santa's pooper, a big titty elf, and murderous reindeer! Read at your own risk, don't come crying to me if it ruins your holiday.

This is my last blogpost of the year, so I figured I may as well go out with what passes for "holiday cheer" around here. I've written a Chr...

There's also a weird commentary about how if the Catholic family believed in contraception they'd be able to afford to move out of their haunted house lol.
The theological implications are weird: it *feels* like Catholic propaganda, yet is set up to glorify the sanctity of the Warrens above and beyond the Church. Their child is miraculously raised from the dead, they wield spiritual power where priests fail, etc.
Slogging through Conjuring: Last Rites. So far:
-Who would buy a broken mirror as a present for a young girl's confirmation?
-Oh no, the demons all have Creepy Smiles(tm)
-Real long cookout/ping-pong sequence
-Why does the bridal place have them try dresses on in an endless hell of funhouse mirrors

If you want a *great* metal review channel, check out @lindsayc88.bsky.social's Heavy Metal Journal on YouTube. She enthusiastically loves the genre without pretension, will put you on to good stuff you've never heard of, and really knows her shit. youtu.be/JWPhe9eme1M?...

There's a fairly prominent metal review youtube channel that dropped a video of their viewers' top albums of the year--hosted by two guys who absolutely shit on the fans' picks. I guess it's supposed to be funny, but metal nerds aren't beating the hipster allegations in 2025. Feels lame to me

RPG Theory Guy: Oh, you're having fun playing games? *cracks knuckles* Check out the latest batch of problems I've invented. Don't worry; I can make it sound real intellectual. I'll throw in a few "ludo-narrative dissonances" for free. Wanna get rid of those problems? Buy my games. *salesman grin*
I tend to tune out TTRPG theory talk because I find it's usually someone explaining why their personal design approach is Correct, True, and Best; i.e. advertising
