In five years a lot of people who swear they will net use AI and couldn’t possibly use AI because AI is useless will be using a cool new tool to help them do a thing they love doing but it won’t specifically be ChatGPT so they will swear up and down that the AI thing they are using is not AI.
convinced the majority of these objections are people who think "ai" means "chatgpt as it is currently being sold by openai specifically, generally for exactly one use case which it is bad at"
This fundamentally misunderstands how generative AI works. There can be no relation between real human creativity and AI ‘enhancement’. Even if you feed it your own art, that gets incorporated into the big Average Machine. Whatever it spits out, however close it may be, will be averaged and ersatz.

Violent or destructive left wing protest is framed as delegitimising the protesters' stated cause.

Violent or destructive right wing protest is framed as emphasing the need for urgent action on the protesters' stated cause.

As always, right wing men are treated as elemental forces without agency.
This is a bit of a atretch/hope: there were 5 protests, with the largest two being up to 300 people, a total of around a thousand or so people.

the EU has decided to make football ungovernable
The European Court of Justice ruled Friday that decisions made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport can now be reviewed by national courts to ensure compliance with EU law.

The ruling means that certain decisions from governing bodies such as FIFA can be challenged outside of Switzerland.
EU court rules CAS decisions can be reviewed by national courts
CAS, an institution independent of any sports organisation, handles significant legal sporting cases such as doping and contract disputes.

I rate Cunha and Mbeumo but I think spending £130m is absolutely mental. For that sort of money on two forwards you'd hope they'd take you to top four level but I don't think they do anything like that for United.

Tomiyasu played in these games? I have no recollection of that at all
Below is the starting XI Mikel Arteta fielded the most across all competitions in 2024... and yes, that is Tomiyasu in there!

This XI started four consecutive matches in April/May, winning all four against Chelsea (5-0), Spurs (3-2), Bournemouth (3-0) and Man Utd (1-0).

This is something that used to infuriate me about Arteta, I thought we learned how to attack well the 22/23 season but we haven't had a season that consistently good from open play since then.
One of my Arteta gripes is how he lingers on specific missed chances. It’s human, but lends itself to a style in which we try to orchestrate too few, but perfect, West Hammy goals, and then nail every one. That’s not realistic. The objective should be to create so much that you forget the misses.

Same thing as Fulham btw
This has been really annoying me all afternoon. How can you have only four shots in the last 50 minutes and go 12 minutes at the end of a home game you need to win, against a bottom half team, without a shot? You've got to go for it at some point!
Time of Arsenal shots v Everton. Shows the sterile nature of the dominance especially in the second half:

8
10
12
17
29
43
43
46
47
57
64
75
85

You're looking to get a goal to win a match and you manage four shots from the 48th minute to the 97th.

Totally understand why people would be annoyed with the misses but this has been much more ‘normal’ Gabriel Jesus tonight. He’s never been a deadly finisher, involvement is his key marker and there’s been a lot of that tonight. Less looking totally lost and more buzzing around.

I should move on but still unbelievably rattled by the Rice red card v Brighton because that ‘offence’ happens in literally every single game and it doesn’t even draw a comment (rightly so) but loads of people suddenly pretended they thought it was a logical decision.

Going to take a huge effort from Arsenal (or anyone else) to stay within striking distance waiting for Liverpool to drop points. Sure they'll drop some eventually - long way to go - but it's some cushion they've got.

This is a great column. I have so much respect for Tim for acknowledging the Partey situation here too, no one else is touching this with a ten foot pole. What we do in midfield in the summer is going to be interesting.
