Personally I think while we've gone through several evolutions under Arteta he is fundamentally very rigid in what he wants. The amount of money we've thrown at the left 8 position every window to find this hyper specific player is one example.

Yeah and this is exacerbated by the end product contribution of our Fullbacks last season (effectively 0). This season with White back it will be better but I don't see MLS hugely improving on that front just yet.

Yeah I agree but I think his lack of final third output in open play is just as much a limitation in those games at 8. Really he is a double pivot player and we are shoehorning him into either role in some ways.

Yeah totally agreed. The way we play is obviously brilliant in big games so I don't really think we need to change much there, apart from maybe transitioning a bit better. But the way we play against mid table teams where we have all the ball is still a fair bit worse than other teams.

I find it weird how we've decided Rice can't play at 6 ever again. When we're chasing games it could be a way to get another attacker on the pitch. I think you'd rather keep Rice on than Zubi because of his set pieces and stopping transitions if we're throwing everyone forwards.

Yeah... An other way you could achieve balance would be to have a swashbuckling left back and play Rice as part of a double pivot. Would also solve the issue that there are like 5 touch line wingers in the world and get our wingers inside a lane. Obviously we have gone down a different route.
