The current person in charge of ICE's procurement for detention is a GEO Group executive who ran the company's immigration detention portfolio. He was granted an "ethics waiver" from DHS allowing him to hand out contracts to GEO in his new role.

Similar issue happening regarding tariffs right now as well. Mike Johnson is holding up legislative action that would basically be reaffirming Trump can’t unilaterally implement tariffs.
I should add that I don‘t object in principle to requiring via statute that people follow the constitution. “We really mean it, you absolute assholes” is a valid message to send via law. But I do think there’s a risk that people will lose track of the underlying requirement in this environment.

Just to be clear here. Johnson is holding up House action on reaffirming something that is crystal clear in the constitution. Tax & Spend is solely within the purview of the legislative branch.
