This is so common. Check for feasibility, hedge against risks, acknowledge imperfections. But . . . If we wait for things to be perfect, they will never be done.
one thing i can't stand is people comparing proposed policy changes against an idealized world instead of the world we actually live in

Can you imagine being in the US military right now and not knowing if the Insane, tyrannical president will send you to fight and, maybe, die in Iran for no good reason, or Greenland for completely idiotic reasons, or Minneapolis for very bad reasons.
