I write music, I play games, I occasionally talk about doing those things
I read Slaughterhouse V in my undergrad history course, taught by a Kennedy assassination conspiracy theorist. Totally life-changing. Breathtakingly tragic and hilarious.
when i was 15 i was convinced i wasn’t good enough for my very pretty girlfriend so i did all her homework for her, which eventually included reading “slaughterhouse-five,” which immediately led to me ignoring the fuck out of my very pretty girlfriend as i read kurt vonnegut’s other 13 novels.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

If you're an academic talking to a non-academic audience, the goodwill you build by either not using jargon, or explaining any jargon you do use, is incalculable.

Correct use of jargon is about gatekeeping. But you're not here to show your credentials, you're here to engage with other people.

Very pleased to see James Watson's homages in the press being roundly roasted in the comments for crediting him with Rosalind Franklin's discovery. #jameswatson #science #DNA

In case anyone is wondering if Watson was really THAT bad, @lpachter.bsky.social compiled a list of quotes that are absolutely not for the faint of heart.

you don't understand. as someone who isn't inherently good at art, stealing paintings from the museum is the *only* way i'm able to express myself creatively. i wouldn't be able to paint beautiful portraits. but by breaking into a museum and stealing the paintings, now i am

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

If they're going to try and retcon Charlie Kirk, then we should try to retcon him too.

Tremendous, the schadenfreude is off the charts
I started to say "this is extraordinary," except that I don't think it is. I suspect people suffer severe consequences for relying on AI far more often than they admit publicly to it.
This thread is incredible.

Happy 25th anniversary to Final Fantasy IX.

It's my favorite Final Fantasy game of the PS1 era.

You can talk at length about the characters, story, music and everything else that makes it so special, but the bottom line is it's an RPG classic everyone should experience!
