i love both NYC and SF in different ways but i can't get over the fact that i have heard it several times that people who visit SF say how dirty it is and the same people who visit NYC say it's great. I've lived in both places let me assure you there is plenty of grime to go around.

Very cool development. Being on his website and giving this man your data for free while he uses your accounts as AI feeders and experiments on you to perfect his exploitative algorithm is definitely still morally neutral. For sure.

I didn't see enough news about this crazy/cool paper from DeepSeek - you take text, and convert it to imagery, and you get BETTER performance. Oh and some really neat ideas about contextual memory too.

A Picture Is Worth Ten Thousand Tokens
DeepSeek's new OCR model achieves 97% accuracy while using one-tenth the tokens by rendering text as images. The computationally "heavy" modality turns out to be the efficient one, which should make u...

There is no other explanation for the supposed anti-government people (usually on the right) to not be out in the streets rioting about this than they were always disingenuous in their anti-government stances.

Just deboarded my plane two hours after boarding it. In the same city. Not good

yet again i learn that no matter HOW upstanding you think someone is, NEVER allow start work without explicitly detailing the work/time.

Someone claimed to spend 8 hours doing something that couldn't have taken more than 15m. i'll never stiff anyone, but i'll never work with this person again.

in other news, this is incredible. karpathy.bearblog.dev/auto-grade-hn/

If you could have it point at your own email/chats/etc, and give you hindsight analysis, that would be a fucking super power.

Ok this may be an insane take but I don play football in HS.

Padding is really good and I think you’d be able to be healthy for all 10. You’re not gaining a yard unless the blocking scheme is PERFECT, but pads work!
been thinking about that “if you had 10 carries behind an NFL line, could you get a first down” hypothetical

and the trickier question is this: assuming you don’t slide, could you make it through all ten carries without fumbling

Kind of wild to think about it but the solar/battery boom is as likely to end war in Russia (and soon to be Venezuela) as anything else.
This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...
