This week's episode of Transformers AutoBook Club is a special one because I was lucky enough to have an insane guest, a voice actor for Transformers at Universal Studios, who was a total gem!

All movies become dad movies when I watch them. Roger Rabbit? That’s a dad movie now. Mallrats? Dad movie. F for Fake: dad movie. Tetsuo the Iron Man, you better believe…

On this day in 1976, Jenette Kahn, a comics outsider was installed as publisher of DC Comics, which was failing and in danger of shutting down completely. At the time I thought WTF, what sort of corporate skullduggery is this? As did most of comicdom. Man, were we all wrong. She's a legend.

Always love seeing original art of a cover like this and appreciating the physical paste-up work that went into them. Look at how they had to carefully cut out those jagged letters toward the bottom! And then someone from production (or maybe Sal himself) had to draw a tree AROUND the logo!

Me in 1987: having befriended either Steven Grant, Steve Rude, or Mike Baron, I would have bugged them to let me do a backup strip in one of their First Comics series; it’s probably called “Steeplechase & Company,” is some sub-Douglas Adams comedy sci-fi, and every letter-writer hates it.
If this were 1987, I'd be writing a comic for Eclipse Comics called "Captain Marmalade and a Time Beaver." It would be a monthly that comes out roughly every 7 months. Each issue would begin with an apology from Cat Yronwode about how long it was delayed.

Sort of freaking out about this very clear read on epistemological problems within the fiction of superhero comics
So an odd thing here is that if you say "an unidentified man dressed in a Batman costume" your point is to communicate "it is not really Batman" but the problem is that the real Batman, within the fiction of the comic book "Batman", is also, literally, an unidentified man dressed in a Batman costume
An unidentified man dressed in a Batman costume angrily confronted Santa Clara city officials during a joint meeting of the City Council, city authorities, and the Santa Clara Stadium Authority on Monday, using his public comment to condemn the city’s stance on cooperation with ICE.

Catherine O'Hara was one of my comedy idols. A fearless, versatile genius. She made it look so effortless. Her commitment to character was unmatched. Watch Waiting for Guffman this weekend in her honor. May she rest in peace.
