What on Earth does legitimacy have to do with gerrymandering? If this were a thing voters gave a shit about it would have been dead two centuries ago. They don’t. It’s abhorrent, but there’s no POLITICAL downside.
This is a childish understanding of politics www.politico.com/news/2025/07...

I would go further: If you believe this strategy will work, you know nothing about authoritarian rule.
Resistance is the *only* strategy.

This totally makes sense for Zelenskyy. It’s clear that whatever Trump is going to do or not do for Ukraine is not going to depend on Zelenskyy maintaining credibility as a democrat.
"The new law came after Zelenskyy & senior aides launched raids on prominent critics & activists ... this followed sanctions earlier this year targeting high-profile figures, including former president Poroshenko."
Worrisome pattern.

💥Viktor Orbán’s demographic strategy is a disaster. Over the past decade, 37.8% of Hungary’s population decline was due to emigration to other EU countries. Hungary is losing the competition to retain its own citizens while birth rates tank. Read Direkt36's in-depth article on @vsquare.bsky.social👇

This is shameful - and utterly stupid. It's not only dead wrong to treat this way those who give their lives to serve our country, but it's taking us out of the fight for our interests around the world. China & Russia are laughing, and taking our place.

Authoritarian regimes NEVER give up power willingly.
"For Trump and his cronies, the prospect of losing power will be catastrophic because of their fear of being held accountable for criminality that dwarfs Trump’s first term. And unlike January 2021 — when the Big Lie scheme failed — Trump and his cohorts will have new tools to carry out a coup."

This asshole Moyn and his fellow dwarves are so stunningly wrong about Russia’s post-cold war history that he really should just crawl into a ditch with the Russian army outside of Kharkhiv and make his arguments from there.
Sigh.
Moyn is at it again with the straw men:
"In this sense, Putin’s invasion has been treated in much the way many liberals have treated Trump’s rise—as an unprovoked aberration, an alien force from nowhere."
Ok, show me one liberal who thinks this.
