Not the current bunch, no, but the politicians (in theory) serve us and we can remove them. What power do we have over an independent Bank of England or the OBR? There seems to be a democratic deficit here.

🤔 Do we really need an independent Bank of England? And do we really need the OBR? What purpose do these two things serve? Is it just to keep the "markets" (i.e. mostly rich people) happy, or is it more complex than that?

Resourcing HMRC is incredibly good value: every £1 for tax compliance brings in £23. Private-sector orgs dream about ROI like that.

But some everyday/automated tax enforcement is error-prone, or hits the poorest hardest.

We need to measure tax **enforcement** incidence.

We're not uncritical of Corbyn but he seems, this past 10 years, to have helped (with others) unleash a significant amount of left-wing energy in the UK and, for that, we're grateful. Glad he won't be leader of Your Party. Hope they can make the collective leadership thing work. It will be hard.

📢 Those who claim to be the "squeezed middle" are often paid way above the average UK wage of around £38k p/a. Those who feel they are in the "squeezed middle" should make common cause with those on much lower incomes, then we might see some real change... www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
