Important new research published last month in Nature Sustainability shows that the oil and gas industry has only a 1.42% share of global renewable energy.

🧵(1/2) Trump announces sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies. Whether this is just performative or will be withdrawn after next call from his handler in the Kremlin, remains to be seen. However, it may be useful to know more about these two behemoths which produce over half of Russian oil.

This is the big one keeping solar and batteries from eating eveything - winter.

It's why decarb models even in the sunny US typically have more wind than solar, why Ontario, Sweden, and Finland are building more nuclear, and why we need to deploy what tools we can to blunt heat demand.
20. There is no way we can build a big enough battery to shift energy from summer to winter. The economics of battery storage are nearly impossible at one cycle a year.

Statistically insignificant results are at least as interesting as significant ones (but often end up in the file drawer because deemed less publishable). Results are interesting if they change what we believe. No reason that only non-zero findings should change our beliefs.
