When they tell us finances are stretched and we all have to make sacrifices, this is how our government chooses to use police officers' time. Apart from being immoral, and difficult for the brave protesters being arrested, what's the cost to the taxpayer of court cases, police hours and paperwork?
🚨BREAKING: Dozens more people arrested for peaceful protest in Manchester.

The protesters in Manchester were not inciting violence and it is absurd to be treating them as terrorists.

These arrests are a violation of our rights to freedom of expression and assembly.

Such a great campaign to get recognition for a woman who was mourned by people of her time. I pass that cairn twice a week and it's been good to see people stop and read the story. Well done Sara and Andy!

I see the argument. Ripping down all that concrete and replacing it with expensive flats built for tourists doesn't seem a good option for the community. Refurbish it, be creative about its future uses.

I agree. Says only 2051 homes for social housing have been built in Edinburgh in the last five years, yet everywhere you go student flats are popping up. They make loads of money for investors and destroy local communities. While homeless people live in atrocious accommodation. Disgraceful.
This is a good read from someone who knows what they are talking about 👇

In the UK there has been a decades long campaign against the BBC by the right wing. They can’t stand the fact that the BBC is owned by the people and corrects the narrative that the right wants to impose on the public.

The BBC belongs to the British people, not a billionaire.

This just sounds out of order. Once again police time wasted accosting people at random, then retreating when the accusation made is found to be an embarrassing mistake. And the students who had to deal with this...Edinburgh University should apologise and learn from this.

Call for council to preserve the Causewayside Lads Institute
The Grange & Prestonfield Community Council have demanded action from Edinburgh Council in order to preserve the building at 27-29 Ratcliffe Terrace. Last week council planners refused permission to demolish the former Lads Institute on Causewayside and replace it with a block of student flats. Hot on the heels of the refusal, the applicant - SDR Property Developments Ltd with an address on Gorgie Road - has made a separate application simply to demolish the buildings.
