The only reason Canada Post has to break even is because very stupid people think the government is a business and/or the national budget works like a home ledger.

The liberal/democratic establishment doesn’t want to win so much as they want to maintain the capitalist status quo. If they wanted to win they’d embrace democratic socialism. That’s what wins.

The bigots are loud, but they are generally outnumbered. It’s important that we are vocal in supporting 2SLGTBQIA+ people. Particularly trans youth who are facing increasing legislative discrimination across the country.

leftists said the Democratic Party is ignoring the material conditions of the working class: stagnant wages, the housing crisis, the crumbling infrastructure, medical bankruptcies. and how all of that would create an opening for fascism.

but liberals called us purists, unrealistic, perfectionists.

It is way harder than it should be to find native plants for my garden. But I lucked out today and found 4 new native plants to add to my garden.

Same
reasons i will not run for mayor of vancouver:

- don't like people
- strangers frighten me
- vancouver is inherently limited from a geographical and historical perspective and i lack the hubris required to run for office
- would stop me from my true passion, which is to be hot and rank things

🌈 Happy Pride! Friendly reminder: Queerness is a part of nature. Queer identities have existed throughout time and all around the world. Sexual and gender diversity also exists in a while lot of animal species too. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t ‘natural’. It’s part of life on this planet.

Me, trying to declutter: “do you think we will ever need this?”
My partner: “no, let’s get rid of it”
Me: “agreed”
Them, 4-8 months later: “do you know where that thing is?”
Me: “we got rid of it”
Them: “shit, we did need it”
Anyway, went to the store today for zip ties to hang lights on our patio

Mothers Day feels like a day where the patriarchy and gender binary are reinforced particularly strongly. I don’t like it. I’m sure that’s not a popular opinion.

You can’t Make America Healthy Again if you refuse to address food insecurity, poverty, lack of affordable housing & healthcare, racism, bigotry & ableism

People need a living wage, healthcare & housing to be healthy

The current regime wants to blame us for being sick and/or poor. Don’t let them.

The election might be over, but our advocacy isn't! Soon, Prime Minister Mark Carney will announce his cabinet. We need to make sure it includes a Minister of Women, Gender Equality and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Also, the same people/parties that shut down safe consumption sites, let our health care systems crumble, stoke fear and division re: immigration and diversity AND also treat empathy like a weakness, don't get to turn around and talk about poor mental health outcomes.
Like everyone else, I’m so shattered by the continuing news about the Lapu Lapu festival, but everytime Ken Sim or some conservative trots out the term “mental health crisis” it feels like a misdirection. Where were the police controlling entry to the festival? Why weren’t there better barriers?

Question - why were the polls ahead of the Canadian election so wrong? They were projecting a pretty easy path to majority. But that’s not what happened.

Good:

* Poilievre isn't Prime Minister.
* Poilevre lost his own seat.

Bad:

* Everything has shifted substantially rightward.
* 40% of popular vote and +20 seats for Cons.
* Basically a two-party parliament of centre right and far right.
* Left leaning parties wiped out.

My wish before the next election: find a way to help Canadians understand that tax cuts are the LEAST effective measure reduce cost of living. Taxes let the gov buy services and improvements we need in bulk. It’s cheaper to buy things in bulk than for us to try to pay for things individually.

The Conservatives republished their platform with a commitment to crack down on ‘woke ideology’ in the public service and federal funding for research.

Since Trump took office, he has ended all DEI programs, laid off staff, vowed ‘to end wokeness’ in education, and even targeted museums. #elxn45

Cruelty is the point
Poilievre's actual announcement today:

he'd amend the Criminal Code to give police power to charge people for living in a homeless encampment or a tent city

He said these are places where "half-dead, contorted bodies lie on the ground on the verge of overdose from fentanyl"

Compassionate!! /s
Watching Pierre Poilievre’s press conference in Hamilton right now, and his speech has devoted extended amounts of time to repeating two debunked claims:

1) that the Liberal platform was written for Trudeau (it wasn’t, Janyce McGregor already fact checked this)
