France predominantly allocates fishing opportunities to its fleet based on past catch history, largely disregarding social & environmental criteria.

This is something also seen in Ireland with small scale vessels not recieving a fair share @iimro.bsky.social

As cod & ling, that used to populate British waters, migrate north to cooler waters, a large - and normally rare - type of octopus is being caught by fishermen in Devon and Cornwall in enormous numbers. Even tuna & shark.
