Ancient Rome had a winter festival in December, similar to Christmas. It was Saturnalia, in honor of Saturn. Originally celebrated on December 17th, it was later extended from 17–23 December.
During this week, social norms were set aside: slaves ate with their masters, the rich helped the poor... 🔽🧵
