Well, #WeekWithoutDriving came to an early end for a weekend trip to part of WV where there is no public transit available (which is a shame since driving is terrible and it’d be so much more pleasant to take the train!).
On Day 4 of #WeekWithoutDriving, it was just walking around the neighborhood — where I saw one driver not yield to pedestrians (kids to boot) in a crosswalk, and then another driver getting visibly frustrated because a young child was taking too long to cross the street.
On Day 3 of #WeekWithoutDriving there were some short bike rides to the gym, work, and then tennis lessons (thanks to DPR for the amazing program!), and a nice long walk to the Resevoir District park on this cool morning with the pupper.

On Day 2 of #WeekWithoutDriving, I biked to Capitol Hill and back from Bloomingdale, totaling about 8m roundtrip. The bike lane infrastructure in Cap Hill makes it super easy (and safe!) to get there.
On Day 1 of #WeekWithoutDriving, I biked to an errand (get your flu shot!) and then a work event later in the day - a total of 5 miles on the bike! The ongoing repaving work on Rhode Island Ave NW meant I had to take a longer route because unpaved roads and me do not do well.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has praised the surge and reserved her criticisms for ICE wearing masks. But tonight at a local school it was MPD who pulled up their gaiter, put on gloves, and approached me masked.

Nothing like sending FBI, DEA, HSI, and MPD in mass numbers to a high school football game to sow chaos and fear and make things less safe.

I signed on to this letter with my whole heart — a huge thank you the ANC Home Rule caucus that helped push this through.
93 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners from across the city have written a joint letter opposing Trump's takeover: "This takeover is a direct attack on the freedom and independence every community deserves." 51st.news/opinion-a-jo...
Opinion: A joint letter from ANCs opposing President Trump’s takeover of D.C.
President Trump claims he is working to improve public safety. In reality, it’s nothing more than a power grab.

Hit 500 miles on the e-bike today doing what I love the most: hauling groceries from the farmers market and running errands along the MBT. Always grateful to @amantgeorge.bsky.social who found this gorgeous bike for me and whose e-bike guide is a must read!

New: DC AG Brian Schwalb is suing over US AG Pam Bondi’s order attempting to install DEA head Terry Cole as a new federal police commissioner. Just as he did in last night’s legal opinion, he calls this a violation of the Home Rule Act, which leaves the mayor/chief in charge.

From @aclu-dc.bsky.social: "MPD officers cannot force you to show ID (except for a driver’s license if you’re stopped while driving). However, federal immigration officers can force you to show immigration documents and disclose your immigration status."

The next 45 days are going to be a time when everybody in DC needs to know our rights and how to assert them.

Here are five important things for everyone to know while DC is under occupation 🧵

Really love to be downtown where a driver told me to shove it up my c**t because I told him off for blocking the crosswalk with his SUV.

Grateful to the DPW team that came out this morning to address outstanding trash issues on 1st St NW and adjoining streets (like dumped paint cans, trash, random bits of furniture).

So thrilled to welcome them to the neighborhood! Hai Le and Gia Le have created a really wonderful, warm space (and the food is a++++).

Handed out a bunch of flyers for the new Better Bus routes this am and a ton of folks were already prepped for their new route (with some disappointed about the G8 route changes tho). @wmata.com

Nothing more heartwarming on DC TikTok right now than the heartfelt farewells people are posting for their @wmata bus routes and names.

This am: Driver yelled at me to get in the bike lane (which I couldn't cos its a contraflow lane). When I finally caught up to them and told them it was going the wrong way, they said they didn't understand foreign language (we were both speaking in English).
