I usually defend my urban planner brethren and feel that a lot of criticisms directed to planners are really misdirected but listening to this old planner from the Vancouver rail against density and realize that in some instances, I am wrong to defend them

I will believe in the end of identity politics when steel and lumber (28,000 jobs and 105,000 jobs respectively) stop getting bailouts, while higher education (310,000 jobs) collapses in front of our eyes because it's full of ivory tower elites

Like so much with the mayor, there is often a tiny piece of rationality (e.g. Council should be questioning rising costs and whether it makes sense to pay $20M for parking) surrounded by incomprehensible irrationality (e.g. we should move the arts centre to beside the water treatment plant).

Denmark has its own version of the 60s Scoop complete with (misguided) science to cover for their blatant racism. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Greenlandic families fight to get children back after parenting tests banned
The Danish government has banned the use of parental competency tests on Greenlandic families after decades of criticism.

Yeah, this is bad but is nothing compared to the enormous corruption Trump is engaged in.

I'm a big supporter of this project but it sure reads like we are paying $550k/stall to get more parking which is a bit tough to swallow.

There are lots of reprehensible creatures in Trump's orbit and Hoekstra is one of them. When Trump is finally deposed, I can't wait to show this guy the door. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
Hoekstra accuses Canada of meddling in U.S. politics, says restarting trade talks 'not going to be easy' | CBC News
U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra continued to lash out against the ad campaign that infuriated his president and abruptly ended trade negotiations while on stage in Ottawa Wednesday, accusing C...

Let’s be clear on this: Danielle Smith is ripping up the Charter of Rights & Freedoms to take away rights from the most vulnerable people in Alberta. And she’s doing it to protect herself from the militant wing of her own party, nothing more. Hope it’s all she’s ever remembered for in the long run

This is what's at stake.

The UCP is not only dodging its responsibility to explain how Bill 9 is in any way proportionate or justifiable in a free and democratic society.

They are putting children at far greater risk of suicide.
State-level anti-transgender laws increased incidents of past-year suicide attempts among trans and nonbinary young people by 7–72%

Donald Trump could have just kept his mouth shut about Jamal Khashoggi.

But to smear a dead journalist, while sitting with the person accused of orchestrating his murder is just vile.

Every time this administration hits rock bottom, a trap door seems to open.

Cretin behavior.

The real war on Christmas - I doubt Fox News will cover it as such
"Agencies within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, ERO, and CBP intend to implement a comprehensive plan to target Spanish-speaking churches across the country during the upcoming holiday season between Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, and Christmas, Dec. 25."
Exclusive: Trump DHS Plans Immigration Raids on Churches Over Holidays
The Trump Dept. of Homeland Security is briefing federal agencies on plans for immigration enforcement operations inside churches over holidays.

Today RFK Jr. both suggested that aluminum adjuvants in vaccines cause peanut allergies *and* admitted there are no data to support this hypothesis, so he wants to find some.

Like if you took the scientific method, turned it backward and inside out and made it puke, you’d get RFK Jr.’s thoughts.

What a timeline where Marjorie Taylor Greene and Nicolas Maduro are the ones to cheer for in a rift but that's just another small indication of how bad Trump is.

I appreciate the idea of trying to speed up construction but this bill is definitely not the way to do it. Also, the most costly part of construction is not delay - it's labour and materials, but that doesn't sound as sexy...

Just heard that the BC Government is trying to enact the Professional Reliance Act which would require municipalities to issue permits without question as long as the application materials are signed off by a certified professional. This is being done to reduce (eliminate) development reviews

What a gawdawful person Dallas Brodie is. The voters of Vancouver-Quichena should be embarrassed that she is their MLA.

My nation building project would be to develop & implement a national strategy for habitat restoration and wildfire mitigation to protect our communities from wildfires & begin reducing the risks of out of control summer wildfires that aside from the potential destruction, impact our quality of life

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I love these articles that talk about only part of the current story without mentioning the history of how we got to this point on title issues. It's never noted that BC and Canada abandoned their responsibilities to settle treaty issues, it's always that the First Nations are asking for too much.
