iirc Nob Ogasawara once explained the origins of the shorts kid in the Pokemon screenshot: apparently in the original JP script he had similar dialogue to the other NPCs on that route, so during localization he changed it up to that just to give some variety to the world. And it worked like a charm!

Oh, yeah, NPC writing is the best. You can do worldbuilding, add a gameplay tip, or just invent a memorable weirdo. Or a whole city of weirdos. It's great.

My industry has been pushing hard to Al-ify everything. It’s seen as a necessary evil to win budgets.
At a recent trade show my team was singled out as a shining example of improving workflows.
