On our journey from Matamata to Whakatāne today we stopped at Hell's Gate for the mud baths. Then again in Kawerau for Z pies. Friend got a pepper steak and I went with the classic mince and cheese. Big hit w/ my friend, she's eager to try more pies.

I cannot stop thinking of the woman who was brandishing a half litre of milk on the Hobbiton tour. It was a blazing hot day and most people had water bottles but she had her jug of milk. I like milk but this nearly made me gag.

In Matamata for the night after spending the afternoon at Hobbiton. I enjoyed the tour despite knowing very little about the actual movies. At the AirBnB we watched "Boy" and after dark relaxed in the hot tub w/ glasses of wine and did some stargazing. A good day.

I've driven a lot of miles across Aotearoa the past few days and I've been heartened with the number of drivers who have pulled over to let me pass, gave me a cheery honk when I've pulled over to let them pass, flicked high beams to let me know of a hazard ahead, etc. A couple of dicks but mostly A+

Friend's first full day in Aotearoa NZ. Took her to Mt Vic to see the Hobbit Hideaway location then we went to the top for some awesome views. Weather was behaving so that was a delight. Then off to Zealandia to see some tuatara, kākā, etc. Back to mine to watch Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Good day.

Looked everywhere in my small apartment for my favorite pair of sweats. Couldn't find them anywhere and thought I was losing my mind. Finally found them in the drawer where they are actually supposed to be. This is the danger those "don't put it down, put it away" folks don't warn you about.

My god, The Perfect Neighbor is gutwrenching. I knew the outcome going in but that didn't stop me from crying while watching. What a nightmare this community suffered. I love every one of those kids.

Feeling quite useless here in Aotearoa NZ so I've bought a dashcam for ICE observers in Minnesota.
Deanie is pretty chill about people food, she rarely hassles me when I'm eating. Except, as it turns out, when I'm eating chips with sour cream and chives dip. My little cat is a dip fiend it seems.
