Mike Johnson: "I think the midterm is gonna be a great one for us. We have a very favorable election map on the Republican side and it will be even more favorable once all the redistricting, uh, stuff has settled out."

I saw an early screening of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery at the #BrattleTheatre as part of @iffboston.bsky.social #FallFocus

It was great, I think my favorite of the series. Thanks #Netflix for putting it in independent theatres.

NEW: The Kavanaugh stop, 50 days later. "What a sick world."

I asked Justice Brett Kavanaugh about his September 8 concurrence and the reality that has followed. Because he should be asked. He, unsurprisingly, did not respond.

Today, at Law Dork:

I know it's far away and presumptious but is someone working on a Project2029 to fix a lot of this?

I never watched To Catch a Predator but the doc PREDATORS explores the reasons for its popularity and questions its motives and our desire to watch the moment someone's life is upended. Seeing someone's reaction to the raw footage vs the produced episode is telling. #IFFBoston2025 #Movies #Boston

Evidently in China if you suspect a cheating spouse, you don't hire a PI, you hire a MISTRESS DISPELLER to go undercover and breakup the affair. Started quite compelling but then dragged a little. No Q&A and I wonder how the doc makers filmed these intimate conversations. #IFFBoston2025 #Movies

COME SEE ME IN THE GOOD LIGHT is about a lesbian poet couple one of whom, Andrea Gibson, has terminal cancer. It's legit laugh out loud funny and incredibly meaningful. Given the description no one would pick this movie to see and yet I think everyone would enjoy it. #IFFBoston2025 #Movies

Here's the evidence ICE submitted in his case: a "gang worksheet" filled out by local cops in 2019 saying:

1) he had on Chicago Bulls gear
2) a confidential information said he was part of an MS-13 clique in a state he'd never lived in.

ICE agreed they had nothing else. Read the full context here:

Agreed, and the more we amplify what Booker is doing, the more we make it matter, in public perception and as an example to other elected officials. On the other hand, the more we disparage and tear it down, the more we make it not matter. It's not all up to him.
I've come along to this take after kneekerk cynicism. Doing stuff that grabs attention is good. Not every action has to accomplish everything. You can praise and be happy about a step forward. We're going to need many steps forward.
yall we can’t collectively screech that “no one’s doing anything!” and then say “no not like that” when someone actually does something.

is Booker’s filibuster gonna save the world? of course not. but since courage begets courage it could lead to more. I’m fucking cynical as hell but come on.

Grateful to talk to John Kruzel @reuters.com about the current moment . . .

"This cannot be stressed enough - up until this point, we have not, in modern times, had to wonder whether a presidential administration would comply with a court order," said Duke Law professor Marin Levy.
With sweeping actions, Trump tests US constitutional order
Donald Trump's sweeping assertion of power since returning to the White House is testing the U.S. constitutional system of checks and balances established in the 18th century as the president faces scant resistance from Congress and tensions with the federal judiciary escalate.

The first and most important thing to know about last night's Exec order is that it's intended to break current law and allow people throughout the federal gov look at yr tax returns. Beyond that it's intended to compel states to turn over all their data to the fed govt.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
