"What We Lost in the Skies Above Tehran"
HENNING LAHMANN (@hlahmann.bsky.social) on Germany’s failure to uphold international law – and why it’s not the breach of international law that threatens normative stability, but how the international community responds.

I believe that we need to keep talking about what German leaders (and media) have been doing over the past 20 months, and we have an obligation to hold them accountable. My piece mostly concerns the attacks against Iran and not the atrocities Israel is committing in Gaza, but ofc it’s all connected.
He certainly loves saying “derivative”, like, a lot (and can we already stop making this strained Frankfurt School connection? Habermas, whatever we might think of him these days, did not want to supervise him)

Alex Karp Goes to War
Palantir’s CEO is good with ICE and says he defends human rights. But will Israel and Trump ever go too far for him?

The amazing @juliadehm.bsky.social and @cristyclark.bsky.social unpacked with/for me Australia's climate targets (using the term loosely) and how they fall short of its international legal obligations: soundcloud.com/calledtotheb.... Spoiler alert: it's not a happy story.
56. Does Australia have Credible Climate Targets? (Spoilers: no)
In this episode of Called to the Bar: International Law Over Drinks, host Dr Ntina Tzouvala (UNSW Sydney) is joined by Dr Julia Dehm (La Trobe Law School) and Dr Cristy Clark (University of Canberra)

The key to a good academic paper is to open with “What’s up gamers”
Then move onto a webster’s dictionary definition of your topic.
And finally close with “but of course, I had the last laugh.”

As always. This is one of the problems of academic debate. We should ask more often “yes but WHY do you want to write something on this clear violation of the law?” My edgy opinion: the agenda and motives of academics are as important as the arguments.
Here’s a thought: Any legal analysis that goes deeper than a simple “the US administration’s attempts at justification are obviously blanket bullshit and the conduct is glaringly illegal and thus amounts to murder plain and simple“ is dangerous and damaging to the prohibition of the use of force.
