Usually I’d worry that the padres are about to be pawned off to some private equity ghouls and stripped for parts but it’s about to be Seals season

Doesn’t seem great that the team had to take $150M in cash calls the last two years!

I don’t think there’s enough on hiring Stammen to do a podcast because we know nothing about his managerial style or tendencies. We know he’s besties with players and he’s a vibes hire. Meanwhile, our Shildt issues were all strategic and we have no clue if Stammen is the fix for that.

If the only prerequisite was being on the 2022 roster, I would have chosen Robinson Cano or preferably Nabil Crismatt.
A half-dozen San Diego Padres players remain from Craig Stammen’s last season with the team — Manny Machado, Jake Cronenworth, Yu Darvish, Adrian Morejón, Joe Musgrove and Fernando Tatis Jr. SOURCE: The San Diego Union-Tribune

Who’s the funniest option for next manager of the Padres who is already in the org and spying for someone in the front office? It’s gotta be Craig Stammen, right?

When I moved to Arizona during the onset of the pandemic in 2020, I rediscovered poetry while wandering the desert. It came back in short bursts at first until I moved back to San Diego. This is my first book, a toe in the waters as I begin longer projects. Your support is greatly appreciated.

for any prospective Padres managers reading this out there, the correct response to “Where do you see yourself in two years?” is “estranged from my family, friends, players, assistant coaches, and you personally, Mr Preller”

Turns out a manager retiring is good for podcasting.

Going with a poker analogy, the Padres are a very aggressive player who have overplayed their hand. They’re now pot committed with a decent hand, but they’re unlikely to improve moving forward and they don’t really know if they’re ahead or behind. It’s one of the worst places to be in poker.

As usual, the Padres have their eye on the prize by making BIG moves like firing yet another hitting coach

Obviously, I wish they’d have been patient and let prospects arrive in hindsight, but I respected, and still respect AJ’s ambition and willingness to go for it. It could have worked out if X, Y, and Z, but it didn’t.

I’m not super resentful—just think you need fresh eyes and analyses at this point.
