Whilst I'm not a renter, I have young family who soon will be, this is such a positive step to support people to feel secure in their homes. Just a positive story for a Friday.
🚨 NEW: The Government has announced no fault evictions will be illegal from May 2026

Some other reforms from the Renters' Rights Act that will come into effect in May include:

- Rent capped at one rise per year with challenges allowed on excessive hikes

A lot of interesting stats showing the NHS is heading in the right direction, albeit slowly, but what makes it impressive is the progress made whilst experiencing some of the busiest months on record. Fantastic work by all.
New NHS England stats, via NHS Confederation:

"The total waiting list for procedures and appointments has dropped to 7.39 million in September, down from 7.41 million in August.

"The proportion of people waiting less than 18 weeks for care stood at 61.8% in September, up from 61.0% in August."

When discussing the use of nuclear power, the argument "nuclear power is bullshit" was an interesting start. But finishing it off with anybody that disagrees with me should just be quiet pretty much sums them up. What a sad way to go through life.

An interesting read highlighting a serious issue in Scotland. I live in an area surrounded by inherited estates, the amount they limit the growth of rural communities is astonishing.
"The Scottish Government devised a scheme to help the very rich cream off public subsidies for tree planting. Buy land and then the Scottish Government will help you make a fortune from it by planting trees – any trees, anywhere. That is government for the rich, not for the public good."
Land is power – Scotland’s people have none
Land isn't just about wealth and justice, it's about power. Scotland is cut off from its own land resources and hence is poorer as a nation

This is absolutely worth knowing for anybody unhappy about O2's unnecessary/unexpected price increase that wants to show O2 what they really think about it.
Beware unclear O2 messaging!

When it notifies you about its hike on its airtime price hike - you've a RIGHT to leave penalty free within 30 days of notification.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the vast majority of replies to this thread have a) never heard of this fund before now, b) have done absolutely no research to see why countries aren't investing.

Mention labour not automatically backing a seemingly green initiative and bluesky loses its mind 😂

I really do despair for anybody with such short memories to have already forgotten the scale of damage caused by the Tories over the last decade.
With Rachel Reeves and Kemi Badenoch blaming their respective parties for the state of the economy, who do the public think is most responsible?

Previous Tory govts: 29%
Current Labour govt: 26%
Both equally: 34%

This is such a big step for so many people, when travelling for work I travel from the north of Scotland to the south of England via train, and it's so incredibly frustrating, we need to improve rail to help communities around the uk. Well done labour, great start.
GB Railways is getting closer!

While many train operators have already been taken into public ownership, GB Railways still needs to be legally set up.

And the Railways Bill being introduced to Parliament today will do just that!

It will also introduce fairer and simpler ticketing & fares.

Bill includes fare and ticketing reform and a strengthened passenger watchdog to create a better, more inclusive railway for all.

Striking to hear a senior Government minister in Wes Streeting clearly condemning Sarah Pochin's racism and the wider spread of racism across the UK, while defending the contribution of migrants to our country. Feels like a long time since we've heard a government minister speak like that

Reeves raised the wrong taxes whilst she was also wrong for ignoring income tax, vat and employee NI.

I of course disagree, but I've never seen this particular argument being made, I can't imagine why 🤔

Not only is it fantastic to see that Labour's comms are finally improving, but also the work being done to improve England's severe housing shortage, whilst also ensuring the infrastructure is there.
We are building the next generation of new towns to make the dream of home ownership a reality again.

This is not just about building new homes — but brand new communities with proper services.

What does that mean? Let me explain 👇🏻

It's interesting that even people who understand how appallingly inaccurate certain media outlets are will take it as fact if it enforces their negative political views. Is this a new phenomenon or have I just missed it before?

There's still a long way to go but reform and labour are heading in the right direction. I'm surprised not to see an increase for the greens tbh.
Some shifts in this week's voting intention as Reform’s lead over Labour narrows again: now down to just 3pts. With both Labour and Tories up

➡️ REF UK 28% (-3)
🌹 LAB 25% (+3)
🌳 CON 20% (+2)
🔶 LIB DEM 13% (-1)
🌍 GREEN 8% (nc)
🟡 SNP 3% (nc)

Some big changes needed to tax assets and wealth rather than work, but it's something we need to start openly talking about as a society first. I can only hope that labour will start to push in this direction.
The only way to protect your future is by taxing the billionaires more.

This is the smart solution we need, there is no point arguing against data centres, it's inevitable that they will be built and will be needed moving forward, but it's how we minimise their impact on our climate and resources.
Here's a better idea: every data centre you build, you build enough renewable energy to power it, and you supply the waste heat from your cooling system to power homes and businesses nearby. Simple. Common sense. And fair.

Scotland is one of just a handful of countries where greyhound racing continues.

Last year alone in the UK it led to the deaths of 346 dogs and the injury of a further 3,809.

Our bill will end greyhound racing in Scotland for good.

Very much a positive step for our peat land.
More important peat land will be protected as the Labour government announces an expansion of the ban of burning on deep peat .

Following consultation, protection is being exanded to cover ALL deep peat in the uplands, while deep peat is being redefined from the current 40cm to 30cm depth.
