I rented Deathstalker 2025 last night. It's a love letter to the era of 80's video rental stores with shelves full of fantasy, scifi and horror tapes with lurid cover art. At one point there's a deus ex machina magic sword that looks both gloriously stupid and also somehow cool as fuck. I loved it.

That's why I gravitate to Marvel so much, especially their superheroes. Flawed people doing good in the world, doing their best. That's why I love the Marvel universe so much.

I saw the Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer on the big screen today. Visual effects in the entertainment industry are quickly approaching "technologies so advanced they are indistinguishable from magic" levels, and the Avatar movies are the most magnificent example. There is nothing quite like them.
