The risks to Musk and Tesla from a Trump-Musk war go beyond money and politics. Trump could pressure the Justice Department to investigate Musk, which would likely require him to step down as Tesla CEO.

Trump could destroy Tesla and Musk
Without a big attitude adjustment, this could get serious.

I’ll say this as many times as I have to.

No tax cut in the history of tax cuts has ever paid for itself. Not a one.

NYT is in great shape. Amazing business. Leading the industry. And benefitting from consolidation and trends.
While it may be good for The New York Times that Amazon was willing to pay up, it probably also doesn't actually mean all that much for the future of the business...
NYT Lands an AI Partner, and Presumably a Lot of Money
But what does that mean for the future of news? Probably not much, and perhaps something not so great...

After a worrying report about the behavior and capabilities of a new AI model, you may be wondering about the latest expert consensus that AI will destroy us. It’s now up to 34%!

I had a simple question: Has President Trump increased has net worth since taking the White House? And if so, by how much?

The answer was more surprising than I anticipated. Simply put, he has more than doubled his net worth in 4 months.

Here's how:

You probably won’t have time to read the 120-page report about the risky behavior and capabilities of a new Anthropic’s new AI model. So I did. Wow…

But it won't. Instead, we'll just race ahead. Because we'll reason, correctly, that if we don't, others will...

My favorite was @henryblodget.bsky.social's fresh take on the dangerously manufactured U.S.-China rivalry:
"I actually do not believe that China's an enemy, and I actually liked the fact that our economies were super integrated."

Rooting for Tesla, but “full self driving” still isn’t there yet. In @businessinsider.com Tesla v Waymo test, Tesla ran a red light.

Yes, thank goodness he caved. Unfortunately, 30% tariff will still hammer Americans and American companies, and unfortunately pointless trade war only postponed 90 days. But still better than whimsical embargo with critical trading partner.
There are two ways to frame this news:
1. U.S. trade policy and our macroeconomic prospects are much better today than they were yesterday
2. U.S. trade policy and our macroeconomic prospects are much worse today than on Inauguration day

Both are true.

BYD electric truck… much better than EV trucks available in US and much cheaper (half). Even has a small generator, so no range anxiety.

Alas, Americans can’t buy. US protectionism sucks.

I swapped my gas truck for a Chinese hybrid. The BYD Shark is great to drive, but one thing worries me.

To make matters worse, importers are leaving inventory in China ports. Waiting for tariffs to be lowered. If they are lowered enough, there will be a crush to ship them here and transport them when they get here. That will drive transportation costs way up. = More inflation, post tariffs
That means empty shelves, an economic slowdown, and layoffs, actually.
