The demolished East Wing is a monument to this regime's destruction of our system of checks and balances, and the process of democratic governance.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Here is my best guidance, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons nearly nine years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

So many major institutions in the US are capitulating to transphobia. We must push back on this before we have no rights left, and no safe places to live.

Trans women can no longer attend:
- Columbia University in New York
- Harvard University in Massachusetts
- Brown University in Rhode Island

And they tell us we'll be safe in blue states. And they tell us it's not a pogrom.
Brown University is caving to Trump.

They are banning trans women from female bathrooms, dorms, locker rooms, and sports across campus. They're also cracking down on trans care for minors, though that is unlikely to be broadly impactful since it's a university.

It's Veep now, every day. They have become completely untethered from reality. It's all a show, a terrible Trumpian shitshow every day.
So 34 million Americans are going to go work on farms. Moving into rural communities, right? Got it. That's a brilliant plan.
Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

Democracies do not use their military to try and intimidate their own citizens with “shows of presence”.

This is fascism.
Military documents confirm that the LA operation today was a “show of presence” intended to send a message to LA residents about the power of the federal government.

After staging with armed soldiers and Border Patrol agents on horse, they packed up and left after a short walk.

It is frightening that the defense of basic rights and democratic self-government against the authoritarian onslaught depends so much on people who are evidently unable and/or unwilling to grasp who and what we are facing and instead just cling to signaling “bipartisanship” and upholding “unity.”
Dems think they’re rising above partisan politics by killing impeachment. Really they’re falling down on constitutional duty. Trump illegally bombs Iran without Congress, 128 Dems + leadership join the GOP. We can’t confuse complicity for pragmatism. You don’t fight authoritarianism by enabling it.
