Photo taken at Forest Farm NR ~ Cardiff ~ South Wales A robin foraging for its young is a small, plump bird with a vibrant orange-red breast, greyish-brown back, and a bright yellow beak. During nesting, its beak is heavily laden with dark insects, creating a busy, frantic, and slightly cluttered appearance around its face, signalling it is returning to feed chicks. The bird has a distinct, warm orange-red breast that contrasts with a grey-brown back. Instead of appearing neat, the beak is filled with insects—often dark worms, beetles, or larvae—that protrude outwards. The robin moves quickly, often landing on a high perch near a nest with this "heavy" load, acting in a very determined and focused manner. A small bird, roughly the size of a teacup, but its bright breast makes it easy to spot against green foliage or, occasionally, on human-made structures like window ledges. This behaviour indicates the peak of the breeding season when the parent is diligently feeding its young.
