Here's the thing I don't understand. You can't as much as sneeze near a historic site in Washington without like 14 commissions, councils, and advisory boards giving you the okay. And everybody now is like...yup, fine with us? wtf?

Update: The Smithsonian is staying open "at least through Monday, October 6, 2025."
I have covered multiple government shutdowns (and near-shutdowns) for The Post since 2013. This is the first time I can remember that the Smithsonian and National Gallery have declined to say whether they can stay open using unspent funds.

Rs also having their cake and eating it here. They 1) cut $1 billion from DC budget, 2) are not confirming judges who could move cases, 3) and are saying the feds must take over DC bc it can't handle crime.
There were 274 homicides in DC in 2023, which appears to be when this data was culled. In 2024, there were 187 homicides in DC, down 32%. This year, there have been 99, compared to 112 at this time last year.
