How Radio Times launched The Monkees in 1966. A very strange choice of photo, and whoever wrote this does not seem to have been overly optimistic about the fortunes of 'The Monkees Group'.

Sir Thomas Vyner, 1st Baronet (1588 – 1665) was an English merchant and politician who served as the Lord Mayor of London in 1653. Vyner supplied gold bullion to two English kings and to the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. He was knight by both the latter and King Charles II

In June I briefly stopped off at Barton-on-the-Heath, Warwickshire, where my two of ancestors, Edmund Lambert, and his wife, Joan, were buried in 1587 and 1593 respectively. They were involved in a long running property dispute, with their nephew, William Shakespeare

Managed to photograph this bird through the kitchen window. I’m fairly sure it’s a leucistic Chaffinch

One of my favourite of Shropshire’s hidden gems is the 'Bayeux Tapestry of England'. In All Saints Church, Claverley. Spanning more than 15 metres in length, these lovely paintings date from the 13th century. The knights seem to leap to life. I'd definitely recommend a visit ✨️

The Courtauld Gallery's full collection can now be viewed online for free here: courtauld.ac.uk/news-blogs/2...

The Courtauld is a special place to me. During my PhD I visited it often when I needed to relax and have time to myself. I miss it. Now I can visit it virtually. This makes me happy.

Dafydd ap Gruffudd being the 'David of Wales' meant here - as prince of Wales (Gwynedd) his end was the first - I think - full traitor's execution at Shrewsbury. Messy (and 20s. worth of work for a certain 'Geoffrey of Shrewsbury').
This #ConstituencyTuesday is Chester! In 1283, Chester had received a special summons to send two MPs to the Parliament at Shrewsbury, which passed sentence on David of Wales. But it did not return any more MPs until it was enfranchised by the Act of 1543.

A figure that is half smartly dressed gentleman and half skeleton stands between life and death in this image by Robert Dighton. On one side are the trappings of life and on the other a tomb inscribed with messages about the fragility of life 🗃️ #c18th

Had to pull all my tomatoes a week ago when we hit a hard frost, but they are all coming along nicely now. Lots of green ones in a cardboard box but as soon as they barely start to turn, they join this mix. So pretty. ☺️🌱
