Absolutely exquisite advice. 🤌
Write like no one will read it.
Edit like everyone will quote it.

You'll be unstoppable! 🚀

OK, I am not COMPLETELY averse to scented paper. For example, my cassette of Madonna’s Like a Prayer still smells like the patchouli it was infused with in 1989 and I love it.

But I draw the line at garlic mayonnaise.

I was just yearning for some bonkers contemporaries.
With the increasing popularity of trad-flavored romance, I believe that now, more than ever, we need a resurgence of screwball comedies.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

All because our society does not (literally) value art and creativity.
Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing.

These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.
Artists are losing work, wages, and hope as bosses and clients embrace AI
Visual artists, illustrators and graphic designers share their stories about how AI is being used to lower wages, degrade work and even replace it altogether, in this installment of AI Killed My Job.

You guys, so many Romance girlies are reading "On Tyranny" that they've broken the Goodreads recommendations algorithm. 10/10; no notes.

“this is perhaps why the right is so obsessed with AI: it’s the idea of art without any of art’s complexity. art without labor, cost, intention, specificity, or joy; art that no one, neither producer nor consumer, has to spend any time on at all.”
wrote a little essay about prose, 90s historical romances, and why fascists love AI so much 💕

It’s adorable when guys dismiss Jane Austen as saccharine romantic fluff because I suspect none of her critics will write novels of such sharp comedy and keen understanding of human nature that they’re still being read by millions of people 250 years in the future.

A thought I keep returning to — and that’s underscored by today’s news — is that a legacy publication or a deep-pocketed investor could hire an astonishing array of talent right now and make the best newspaper in America overnight.
Well, this is fucked up and depressing.
Rolling Stone fired Alan Sepinwall, Status’ Oliver Darcy reports. That’s probably the end of my subscription.

COME BACK, CECILIA GRANT
People bitching about GRRM and Cecilia Grant wrote four utterly incredible books that literally define what’s good in the romance genre and then rode off into the sunset, never to be heard from again.

Can't believe people don't get this; but the reason this payment processor shit has to be all or nothing is because once these freaks establish a line on what fiction is or isn't okay the line will only move further and further in. You have to fight against the line entirely.

In Preservation culture, asking payment for anything considered necessary for living (food, power sources, education, the feed, etc.) was considered outrageous, but asking payment for life-saving help was right up there with cannibalism.

AI sucks. 1. It is built on stolen material. 2. It devalues human artists and writers. 3. It uses an incredible amount of energy and water. 4. The output is mediocre at best. Stick to your guns, gals.
Every. Single. Story. about women not using AI as much as men portray it as bad for their future career prospects (without a shred of evidence) and a result of women being fearful little ladies rather than looking at AI's output and saying "this sucks, it's not going to help me."
For women, the increase of AI use in the workplace may affect their careers: Harvard study
Women are using AI significantly less then men and it’s going to have a major impact on their careers, according to extensive research on the topic.
