Trump is trying to force US oil companies to rebuild Venezuelan oil fields that are too expensive to invest in at current crude prices while a full blown energy revolution is happening with cheap solar and electrification growing exponentially.

This is a dying empire shit.

there's just something morbidly funny about how he just throws everyone who sucks up to him under the bus.
Trump on María Corina Machado: "I think it'd be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn't have the support or the respect within the country. She's a very nice woman but she doesn't have the respect."

Pathetically insufficient. There's literally nothing the US could do that could inspire criticism from albanese
Australia. Echoes the watery EU and UK.

It seems like the extent of strategic planning was the demented one saying “just go and get him and everything will work out”.
No troops on the ground, a non-compliant regime, an angry populace, a live hostage situation, a divided nation, a corrupt US leadership in fantasyland. It’s a nightmare.

Toying with the idea of going to Japan again late January through to end of February in 2027. Even though it'll be my eighth visit, still quite a lot I still want to do. I'm surprised there are a few things in Tokyo/Kanto region I still haven't done which seem really interesting

At least four days of near 40°C temperatures from the middle of next week. Not exactly looking forward to that. We've had several La Niña years and no really any hot summers since 2019/2020. So I feel I'm not really use to that type of heat now

Every month our ABC runs these weird articles that suggest shithouse housing is our future, that we should expect less, not more than previous generations.

Are modular homes the key to solving the ACT's housing crisis?
Fast to build, eco-friendly and affordable: modular and pre-fabricated homes have been touted as a possible solution to Australia's housing crisis, but manufacturers and suppliers say changes are need...

Extremely tiring to see key people in anglophone fandom reduce Comiket down to "porn". Not only is it demonstrably false, it's quite disrespectful to those who participate in it

This may be a bit of a generalisation, but the difference between how Japanese fandom and anglophone fandom discuss Japanese pop culture is really stark. Japanese fandom is generally insightful or at least inquisitive or enthusiastic. Anglophone fandom discourse is pretty fucking dire at best

For their anti-immigrant, white nationalist post about 100 million deportations, DHS stole the artwork of a non-white foreigner: Japanese illustrator Hiroshi Nagai.

Apparently no white Americans were available to design an image. View Nagai's work here: hiroshinagai.com/contents.html

New year's eve and once again I'm missing the old SBS Pop Asia New Year's Special. Mostly I miss the show full stop. Seems weird that they axed the show just when kpop was beginning to become massive

Hanson is ranked 48th out of 54 on the “likeability ladder”, and Barnaby is ranked 53rd (yes, second worst) out of 54.

If that is “zooming up” the likeability ladder, what would “zooming down” look like?

According to the SMH journo, "Joyce’s popularity has soared” (yet also 2nd last in 2024).
Zoomed up likeability ladder!!

Yes...but still behind every teal MP, almost the entire Labor and Liberal frontbench, Greens Larissa Waters and Sarah Hanson-Young, and Bob Katter.

Always find a lot of talk on here more or less complaining that people won't move from Twitter to here. Most in the form of mockery of those who want to stay over there. Yeah, I'm sure mocking them is going to convince them to leave

Recently came across a tumblr post about US Customs having the ability to search thru the internet history of foreign tourists, and a US resident commented why would you come here, the only things you'd want to see is Disneyland and Las Vegas. Flabbergasted that people think this about their country
