I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. On my relaxing day after, I have discovered a that a long time MLB player and former Michigan star Elliot Maddux has a card as a Tiger that I didn’t know existed!

Second-best LEFT-HANDED OUTFIELDER born in Donora on Nov. 21.
One of my favorite random baseball oddities is that Ken Griffey Jr. is the 2nd best ballplayer to be born on November 21st in Donora, PA.

Tigers related aside: he was in the Tigers system when they told him to stop throwing his screwball. He didn’t do well without it, Detroit released him, and the rest is history. What could have been for those already great 1930s Tigers teams
On this day in 1988, Carl Hubbell passed away at the age of 85. Best remembered for a devastating screwball, he was one of the best pitchers of his era. He also happens to be a personal favorite. Here’s my painting of him warming up before the 1934 All-Star Game at the Polo Grounds.

Lange, who was very good for the Tigers a couple years ago has an unusual baseball card history. He has two cards in Topps Heritage in 2023 and 2024, and appears in online only sets (Now; Road to Opening Day), but has no regular Topps card or other brand appearances as a Tiger
Source: The #Royals are finalizing a one-year deal with RHP Alex Lange.

Lange, a Lee’s Summit West grad, was DFA’d by the Tigers earlier this week & is under club control through 2028. He spent most of the season on the IL after lat surgery. Notched 26 saves for Detroit in ‘23.

This is worth a share. In 1978, Topps partnered with Burger King to offer regional team sets that had variation photos from the cards in the regular issue sets. They did this from 1977-80. The 1978 Topps Detroit Tigers is especially important because it has rookie cards of three 80s-90s greats.
So many great rookies in that set, but so many stuck with those marginal looking 4 player cards. I bought the 1978 Burger King Tigers team set as much to have nice looking RC of Morris, Trammell & Whitaker as because they're fairly rare. imagine if these had been the regular Topps RC issues.

new @fangraphs.com: Festivus comes early, as it's time for another look at Gary Sheffield, his never-ending list of grievances, and his prodgious offensive production within the context of this year's Era Committee ballot (his first appearance).

Tigers fans, I cannot tell you how happy Orioles fans are that Cody Asche is gone. 😬

Personally, I want to see Bonds, Clemens, Delgado, Kent, Murphy and Sheffield inducted because I already have their rookie cards so it would be good for my collection.
November 3, 2025 at 8:22 PM
I vote for whatever outcome gets Lou Whitaker inducted next time. I can’t believe he’s snubbed again
The Contemporary Baseball Era player ballot features eight candidates for consideration in the Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

Results will be announced at 7:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 7: ow.ly/Agwx50XlQRH

If true, no Whitaker on the ballot again, which I find infuriating

First day of the baseball offseason and I have a second to catch up on taking pictures of new cards. My latest, courtesy of this year’s fantasy baseball winnings:

1927 Exhibits Charlie Gehringer. Virtually identical to his rookie card from 1926. Close enough for the HOF RC collection in my book

Fun article that also does a nice job of describing the pre-war rookie card ambiguities that we need to navigate as collectors!
