Epilogue: to add insult to injury, the Tigers two big trade deadline acquisitions (ostensibly. Didn’t work out!) already have cards in Update, but with their old teams!!

A year or two ago I did an analysis of the Topps set the compared the cards to the actual roster. I may try to find that and do it again. I actually think they did a pretty good job this year on balance (helped by little turnover on the team), but man there are some real head scratchers again

On the plus side, All Star cards took my design suggestion this year hy including the ASG logo instead of the team logo. I could pass on the foil board, but won’t complain too much. Wish they were part of the base set like they used to be. Here’s the only non-photoshopped Gleyber we got this year

And the the bizarre and (in my opinion) unforgivable. Two cards of players that have never played for the Tigers! Why do this? Workman played for TWO teams that weren’t the Tigers this year. Miller was signed as a FA but released by August. Terrible inclusions

But also, this is Topps Update - long considered an update to the season in question (2025) and which traditionally included impact deadline trades etc. Not so for the Tigers. Bryan Sammons had a cup of coffee in 2024 and then didn’t pitch in 2025 at all. Why is he in Update?

So here’s the thing. As a person who wants to collect a card of every Tiger ever, this is great! Bailey Horn! Chase Lee! Tyler Owens! The Owens card is cool! All of these are perfect for Topps Update

I think he’s in. Consistently excellent player for a long time
