The politics of the minimum wage: Explaining introduction and levels
There is much economics research on the effects of minimum wages, but little research on their politics. Yet, ever more advanced capitalist democracies have introduced minimum wages, and the setting ...

We have to see the logic of the killings as well as the killings themselves. The horror is a truth in itself. But it is also a sign of a political logic, one known from the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century.

To stop an authoritarian leader without using violence, people must take to the streets.

It’s how the Berlin Wall fell in East Germany. It’s how Ben Ali was forced out during the Arab Spring. It’s how Al Bashir was kicked out of Sudan.

The good people of Minnesota understand all of this.
Raskin: "I think the people have Minnesota have shown us with their mass demonstration and general strike the direction that we may need to go in nationally in order to send the message that American society does not accept this authoritarian derailment of the US Constitution."

Secretary Noem has forfeited her right to lead. I’m calling on her to resign.

Gregory Bovino must also be fired.

Yes, I am single-issue posting. Because, here in the U.S., the regime's ICE attack on the country is the main story. No one is safe here as long as heavily armed gangs of thugs are roaming the streets and the regime is covering their crimes with lies.

I'm shocked that this is what political communication in the US looks like now - from both sides, to be honest. Of course, I understand the anger from Democrats. But not a smart move. Taking a firm position and explaining it in clear words is better than hurling insults.

What if the executive decides not to abide by judiciary rulings? This puts the finger on a key weakness of liberal constitutional orders. To some extent they rely on leaders playing by the rules. Trump has been exploiting this since day 1.
Q: They defied a search warrant this morning. Do you think they'll abide by a federal court order?

FREY: Everybody listen to that question. The question is 'will this administration abide by a court order.' These are the underpinnings of our democracy and Constitution. The answer better be yes.

It's all so fu***** surreal
Trump is now confusing Greenland and Iceland: "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money."

From today, children under 16 are banned from social media in 🇦🇺. The responsibility for implementing this is on the social media companies. We can have long debates about whether it will work (cheating...) and whether more nuanced measures are better. I for one welcome that one govt decided to act!

The arguably most horrendous humanitarian crisis is currently happening in Sudan. Nevertheless, the country has a resilient network of local grassroots organizations providing help, such as the Emergency Response Rooms. This seems to be a good way to donate to them:

Another example of a growing phenomenon - wholesale replacement of the traditional two party competition ;Con vs Lab) by an entirely different 2 party competition (Ref vs Grn). We may see a lot of this kind of thing next May.
Ashdown & Conquest (East Sussex) Council By-Election Result:

➡️ RFM: 32.2% (New)
🌍 GRN: 24.5% (+16.4)
🌳 CON: 19.9% (-39.8)
🌹 LAB: 15.9% (-7.4)
🔶 LDM: 5.2% (-3.5)
🙋 Ind: 2.2% (New)

Reform GAIN from Conservative.
