Over the years ever more developed democracies have adopted statutory minimum wages. Out of the 33 countries in our dataset only 8 do not have statutory minimum wages today.

A word of caution on the UK election: Labour vote share increased by only 1.7 percentage points; Conservatives and Reform UK together got more votes than Labour.

We conducted an event study with country-level data and a multi-level analysis with individual union membership as dependent variable. We could not confirm that minimum wages crowd out union density.

The chapter presents the use of both options in advanced democracies, and then identifies four minimum wage regimes, distinguished by the degree to which minimum wages are based on collective bargaining or statutory law.

I just published a handbook chapter on #minimumwages, with a hopefully useful overview over minimum wages by #collectivebargaining and by law.
