I've seen multiple talented artists this week who have almost no followers. So this is me once again tapping the sign, if you see art you like, check out their page, if you like the rest of what you see, hit that follow button.
Your timeline will be better, they'll be happier, everyone wins

I made a joke in my main Discord server about DOOM E1M1 being in a major key and @abigbagofkeys.sickonedude.com actually made it. Jesus fucking Christ listen to this hahahaha

When people say that Wuthering Heights doesn't have anything to do with race or that no film has engaged with race, what they mean is that for them Romani people do not count and they also haven't been paying attention. I'm going to share a little material from a recent talk. Content note: racism 1/

We need to stop describing people, even people we don't like, as degenerate perverts. Just describe what they actually are- sexual predators, etc. We don't need to resort to nazi language to Own The Conservatives and sexual perversions are completely separate to morals.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

This paper is a long time coming and I was so happy to present it today. In it, I argue that designing games and designing procedural generators are one and the same, and that we should share knowledge, tools and solutions - and work towards a new shared vocabulary!

Open access, available soon.
The first paper session of the day is on Mechanics and Design, and we're starting off with a Mike Cook @mtrc.bsky.social talk arguing that Game Design is Generative Design.

Thinking through the argument here was really compelling, and makes me want to read the paper right this instant!

Tutivillus Is Watching You

For medieval scribes, mistakes couldn’t be easily shrugged off, as Tutivillus, the stickler demon, was always looking over their shoulders.

I am begging Americans to realise that folk horror isn't just "spooky but it's in the countryside" it's a very specific kind of return to "old ways"/superstitions/religions/the boundaries of civilisation weakening/the rejection of modernity/the local history of an area feeding into something wrong.

it's cool how every media company's response to workers unionizing their highly successful publication now seems to be folding said publication and laying everyone off. it's giving real Cashing Out at the Casino vibes

Okay. Once I get home it'll be time to upload another art post, then a post about research, then probably the Silent Hill f essay which has turned into something you would have found on ganefaqs in 2008. It's long.

Watching The Boys From County Hell and in between that and All You Need Is Death and all of the horror coming from Ireland, especially Damian McCarthy, I think Irish horror is only getting stronger.

The insidious creep of America into everything is something to be wary of especially when their politics also spread and everything becomes homogeneous.
Jesus, if we were to lose the BBC and ITV’s Media & Entertainment division is bought by Comcast we’ll see the complete Americanisation of UK television. The US obviously makes loads of wonderful television. But I like to think the weird Britishness of stuff we make over here has value too.

We can't have any more Mad Max films because at the end of the last one he ambiguously walked into a crowd and became indistinguishable and we don't know how he is going to find his way back out without GPS.
